Unhappy devistation!!--!!god, Why Me?!!

Well...as you can tell in my sig, I'm working on a modified version of the white R32 in initial D. I have completed the motor. It was all done in aluminum spray, the Dollar Store stuff;rust resistent for 2$. This is the only paint I can't get orange peel with. I took the vavle cover and masked the middle part where it says NISSAN and such, and brushed tamiya acrylic clear blue over it, and it looked awesome!! So, today, I sprayed some clear coat on it, and that dulled the aluminum, and here's what it did to the clear blue...why?

Its the clear coat. You have to be careful with clear coats, expecially clear coating metallics. Its hard to find high quality clear coats the coat metallics well. I had sprayed some pieces chrome, then clear coated with Testors and it turned them into aluminum.

Re: !!devistation!!--!!god, Why Me?!!

Should I just re-spray it tomorrow with the aluminum paint? Do I need to re-prime it? Should I do the blue again, and just leave it un-cleared? Thanks Mike.

The paint isnt screwed up in any way is it (texture wise)? If not, just reprime, repaint, and dont clear.

Re: !!devistation!!--!!god, Why Me?!!

You have to know the compatibility of diffferent kinds of paint. lacquer is the strongest, enamel is the next, and water base is the weakest. You shouldn't add lacquer on enamel or water based paint, or solvent will dissolve it. The only clear blue that can withstand clear coat is Gunze Mr. Color, which is aclyric lacquer.

Re: !!devistation!!--!!god, Why Me?!!

You should read the FAQ again. There is info in there about the compatibility of different paints. Could have saved you this heartache!

Re: !!devistation!!--!!god, Why Me?!!

Yea rally, I should read it a bit more often. Thing is, I've used duplicolor silver pearl on tamiya primer with some acrylic clear blue brushed atop with duplicolor clear on it, and nothing bad happened. I used a wal-mart brand clear and I guess it had an unstable reaction.

So, do you guys think I should try to do the clear blue center again??

Re: !!devistation!!--!!god, Why Me?!!

you shouldn't have any problems adding the clear blue over it. Just don't clear.
