Speakers

I had jensen 6X9's in my old car and they sounded pretty good. So I bought boxes and just put em in today. I even took the radio from my old cutlass so it should be giving the right power, I think. Anyway they sound horrible. They dont put out 1/5th of the bass they did in the cutlass. Anyone have any idea why. Or had a problem with their speakers. I don't have the wires crossed. I am just confused.

Thanks Nick

There are so many variables when it comes to speakers..
  1. Type of box being used (w/ or w/out a port, and wood type)
  2. The type of radio being used to power them
  3. The gauge of the speaker wire being used
  4. The number of speakers hooked up to the radio
  5. Location of the speakers
  6. The over all size of the interior of the vehicle
What specifically have you changed from one car to the next?

Re: Speakers

I got 2 Q-Power 12's and a Boss 1200 watt amp, it sounds really good, i would suggest upgrading from 6x9's since you can get so much more out of sub's, wich are meant for the bass...

Of course subs are going to hit a lot harder but that don't help me at all. A porsche drives nicer but I cant afford one of those either. The point is im on a limited budget and my 6X9's hit good for 6X9's. Since i have them I want them to work how they should. I don't want to put up another 400$ for a sound system. I want to get a lot of other stuff. I just want to get what I have to work right.

Re: Speakers

I made and carpeted my own box to fit right up next to the back seat and it angles inward where the tire goes out, i have the 12's mounted at an angle and upside down w/ my amp mounted in the middle of the box... and by the way, i got both speakers and amp used and only spent 130 on both so dont give me any of that dont wanna spend too much crud.. lol

130 thats pretty good. The problem is I don't really know shit about sound. I don't want to buy a system then find out the same problem. Idk maybe my car is wired wrong or something. I just bought eh 6X9 boxes I don't want them to go to waste. I don't really need a system just yet. Next thing I want to do is get a sunroof put in and replaint/redo the seats of the interior. Make it all black and red im not sure if im going ot redo the carpet. The cars currently like that grey one. Im going to get it painted red and get a body kit hopefully next summer. I need some cash for college. I didn't mean to sound like a dick. I am on a really limited budget I have like 1000$ in bills comming up shortly so im on a strict budget. Id hate to just scrap my 6X9's. I just want them to work right. I heard I need an amp wiring is messed up maybe a differnt gauge. Like I said I don't know much about audio. I was under the impression if i have the same head unit that the same power should go to the speakers scrapping the idea that I need a amp. Does wire gauge really make that big of differnce. I appriciate the help thanks

Re: Speakers

Yes wire gauge somtimes make a difference, I really am not too sure about 6x9's and such because my celica came w/ the 10 speaker premium sound package and i just use the 4 tweeters for my highs and my sub's for the bass, i took all the mid's out, i dont like the mids sound that comes from the 6x9's and 4's... you have your 6x9's in a box?... ive never heard of that.... normally when i see ppl w/ bump from 6x9's they normally just have them sitting up behind their backseats, but since i have a hatch you cant do that... where are your 6x9's located? are they anywhere in the general area of where you had them in the other car?... just go down a checklist of what youve done different and see what might be wrong... try it out a few diffent ways, with the speakers in different places..

speakers

I have em in the trunk now i jsut moved em so they were outta ppls way but its not the location now they sound really bad. But there definatley messed up. Its not likea little problem there is a huge difference in the bass and sound output. Its not something like location or the quality of the box or anyhting like that. I know its kinda odd to have em in a box but i saw boxes at wallmart so I figured why not. I cant replace the speakers that were in there I believe they were about 5" . In the old car cutlass ciera they gave me enough bass to satisfy me. So I figured ill save getting a system. Now im stuck with the damn boxes and the speakers. Thats why i really would like them to work right.

Re: Speakers

That may be your problem right there... anything from walmart... could be a serious issue... try them w/o the boxes and see if they will work...

Re: Speakers

you might also wanna check and see if the speakers are actually meant for boxes.. and what kind of box, because there are like 4-5 different kinds of boxes
