If you think about it, it is kinda a comparison. Which engine has the highest BHP/Liter ratio? Not only that but, it has to have class. So you could have a toyota and BMw at about the same BHP/L but the BMW has more class and a rep. I pretty much trying to say "What is the best luxury/super car engine?" BTw, it does have to be a production model and Super and Turbo charged cars are allowed. My vote currently goes to the 2001 Subaru Impreza WRX STi with 140 BHP/L and a total of 275 BHP! It's the better version of the WRX. It ain't luxury but it sure is Super! :flamer:

Well, Porsche Turbo's are great, Ferrari V8's are wonderful (NA...impressive...not to mention the 8 in the F40) and so is the V12 they use in F50. The Leblanc Caroline is great too...but that's not really a production car.
Man, there are just so many super-efficient engines, there really is no way to say what's the best.

13B ROTARY.
RB26DETT. RBXGT or whatever (400R engine). BMW M V12 BMW M V8 Small Block Chevy (or atleast the Callaway LS1 in the Holden HSV GTS, 400 horses baby!!) But the "coolest" engines aren't found in cars anyway. They are in jets. EDIT: Sorry but I think the engine of the HSV GTS is called the Callaway C4B.

High hp/l doesn't make a better engine.
IMO and being objective I'd say the small block chevy is by far the best engine ever made, followed closely by the small block Ford. For current luxury cars I'd choose the Cadillac Northstar V8. Also the LS6 from the Z06. |

I didn't say the highest HP/L makes the best engine, that's why I tacked on the 275 at the end. It's a small displacement High HP engine, therefore it is good.

How about the AMG 3.2 litre V6 found in the C32 AMG? Produces 354 horses and 111 horses per litre!

The small block Chev is world known and very reliable and you can get some serious hp out of them, and you never have parts problems with them.

I haerd one before and you're right! They sound like friken turbines! Another really good engine is the S2000's, it's not the best car but it is ctaching up with the "M" Roadster, Boxster "S" and the SLK 320. Another is the Mclaren's the LM model however. 680Hp 6.0 Liter V12 by BMW. It dosen't get any better than that.

you cannot compare hp/l with NA and FI engines. more than not the forced induction engine will win. but the McLaren's engine is by far the best. 627 or 680 horses....cant beat it.

Some people don't seem to understand that these high hp/l engines are near the limits of their possible output. (at least without forced induction)
An American V8, while seeming unimpressive with relatively low hp/l, is nowhere near its limit. Also remember high hp/l is much more difficult with larger engines. That is why the Honda S2000 engine has low hp/l when compared to a titchy Honda motorbike engine. |
