'98 Civic Ex Idle Problems
I've got an modified '98 Civic that started acting up after I drove it from Colorado to San Diego. Sometimes when accelerating, at low RPMs in 2nd gear, there is a lot of hesitation. I replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, coil, air filter, fuel filter and pump. Nothing helped. The car had 94,000 miles so I got the timing belt replaced and the acceleration prob went away for a bit. Right after I had the belt replaced the car started pinging and the idle was going crazy. A new distrubutor was put in and the car ran better for a while. Then the acceleration problem came back and now when I shift into neutral the idle is erratic before it settles down. Sometimes it revs to 1200 and then goes to 800, sometimes it drops to 300 and nearly dies before popping back up to 800.

have you checked the vacuum? my friend was having idle problems where it constantly reved from 800 up to 2000 and he had vacuum problems. after he fixed them the car went back to normal. i thought it was rather wierd.

lucanders, did you ever get this problem fixed? I have heard this several times and have the problem, but have yet to hear any resolution. It seems that whenever i change some part the car runs better for a while and then the hesitation comes back. I dont have an erattic idle it is just really low. Turning the idle screw does not seem to help.
