How many quarts of oil?

I don't have my book with me and I'm using some remote access technique to get online so I apologize in advance. I checked on Google and searched the forums however I was unable to locate how much oil one should put in a 2.8L v6 camaro (1988).

I changed the oil to find that there was about 1-2 quarts in there (if that) fairly thick and blacker than onyx. I already put in 4 and I assume I'll need more than that as my friends Civic takes at least 4-5. I'll check back in a few hours; I appreciate it!

most engines are 4-5 quarts. as you''v probly noticed, oil comes in 5 quart jugs, and usually leaves you with about a half a quart left when you change ur oil. some reason engines always use 1/2-1 quart within the first month or so of changing your oil

Have You Ever Heard Of A Dip Stick?

Funny funny funny. The dip stick I have here has sustained some type of damage and cannot be read unfortunately. I thought the v6 took 4.5qts but I put 4 in to play it safe (don't want to put in too much...).

the v-6 will take exactly 4 and a half quarts of oil. by the by, where have you seen five quart jugs? i have only ever seen 4 qts...

Mobil 1 at wal-mart is $22 or so for a nice 5 quart jug. I was really surprised I changed my oil (LS1) and it took almost 6 1/2, when is says it only needs 5 1/2??? I dunno?

you are going to have to remember that the oil filter will hold about almost a quart as well, i have never put only 4 quarts in, always five. The only motors i have ever put 4 quarts in is my sis's civic, my buddies accord, and my girlfriends neon. if you have more than 4 cyl, put 5 quarts in.

well, i thought the book said 5.5 for crankcase and filter, but whatever. more is better.

filter holds exxactly half a quart, case holds exactly four. i like to think im somewhat of an expert on oil changes, i changed oil in the tire shop at the super wal-mart in my town. somebody ask my how many quarts of oil a powerstroke diesel takes???
