nissan bulletin bout timing chain replacement

Okay, I my upper timing chain is rattling right now (startup, go, whereever) and I'm tryin to figure out y. I removed both the valve cover and the timing cover and looked inside. There's excessive wear on parts near the timing chain, especially at the top of the engine. The chain seemed pretty tight tho.
Anyway, the bulletin said somethin bout replacing something, but i don't think it's the actual chain that needs replacing. suggestions?

Re: nissan bulletin bout timing chain replacement

Did you turn the crankshaft? Sometimes the chain stays tight when you shut the engine off. Mine did and I turned the crankshaft. The chain immediately became loose. Go to www.240sx.org. They should have some suggestions. May be the tensioner though.

Re: nissan bulletin bout timing chain replacement

What needs to be replaced according to the tsb is the guides they got new steel backed guides . but when you replace the guides make sure that the guide bolts are the same .And trust me check that chain tensioner .because I bought my 240 from this guy and the damn guide on the non tension side totally cracked into pieces and fell in the oil pan which I'll add is not an easy job to remove .so replace all that shit while your in there trust me.
