Lowering gear ratio and street legal cam shaft

How would I go about lowering the gear ratio on a '94 Z28? And does anyone know what the best cam shaft I could put in and still keep my car California street legal?

well the only way to lower the gear ratio is to swap the gear set in the rear differential, the ring gear, and pinion gear. you can order them from jegs, richmond speed, and any other drivetrain company. for cams, look into comp cams grinds for computer controled vehicles. they have cams that are 50 state legal.

for gears i agre with 98iroc&rs, but for cams. look at summit racing and get the lt4 hot cam kit. that kit will give you at least 30-50 extra hp. thats the setup i want to get in my lt1.

the hot cam is legal in cali???????? its got .525/.525 lift and mad durration, dunno bout that one boss.

yeah but will it pass the sniffer test in cali????? im not sayin it wont, but it is something to make doubble sure of. it would suck to put that bump stick in there just to have to pull it back out.

well, its an aditve you add to yoru gas tank the week you have a smog check due. not sure exactly what it does but it is supposed to make your car run within emisions standards

i have a 95 and i have found that the best cam for your application is to take a .565 cam and sand down the intake lobes.045 with an emery board and you will have the power your looking for. the best gear ratio for the street is 5.13 gears but what you will need to do to get better mileage is break off 2 of the teeth on the ring gear and 4 on the pinion.
and to make all of this work like a well oiled machine you must poke 300 holes in your muffler like a machine gun.
