How do you know what fuse you need for an amp?
Hi,
I am trying to connect a Magnat 620 4Channel amplifer on a Peugeot 205 Gld and I would like to know what fuse I need from the battery. Is there a way to calculate this or what ? |

Re: How do you know what fuse you need for an amp?
If you are using the 4 channel amplifer to power speakers I would assume you are getting 620 rms total? I would say run 8 guage wire with a 50amp fuse, which is generally what 8 guage kits come with that I have had.

if you know the ACTUAL power output ....... you can divide the total RMS of all channels by 12 (volts) and multiply by 2. However, you must understand that the fuse is not to protect the amp - it is to protect the CAR (or the car's battery/ alternator)

Yeah, the fuse is matched to the size of the wire used, NOT the draw of the amp (well, you have to make sure the fuse is large enough so the normal draw doesn't blow it, but beyond that you don't look at the amp's draw at all).
