fuel and temp gauge problem

I have a 97 Malibu and the temp gauge and fuel gauge all of a sudden droped to e and no temp reading. But the tach and spedo work fine. Can someone please offer me help is it a fuse problem ? also my dash light won't come on unless i turn the head light switch on. The automatic light sensor is some what working it turns the head lights on at night but i have to turn the manual switch on for console lights. The PRNDL gear cluster is working okay too.Thank you for any help anyone can offer.

Re: fuel and temp gauge problem

Hi,
I don't know if I follow the "dash light won't come on unless I turn on head light switch on". Are you saying the Automatic Light Control system isn't working?

On the Temp and Fuel Gage problem. Does the Tach and Speedo continue to work? Are there any telltales illuminated when this happens? What about the gear position indicator: "PRNDL" in cluster. Is it still displaying gear you are in?

There is one fuse you might take a look at. Go to your underhood electrical center and check the 10 Amp A/C BFC fuse (I think it is #37 on the label)

Sorry for all the questions. You complaint sounds like something I've heard of before on the 1997 Malibu (usually ended up in replacement of cluster or body computer). I was just trying to get more details to hopefully isolate.
