Decisions, decisions...

something really depressing came up... at my rate of income, it could take me up to 5 years to get the money i need to finish my notchback, to get it the way i want it. i need about 13 grand, not including a whole bunch of stuff i can't really get prices for. keep in mind that i work at meijer and dont' really have many prospects for getting a better job anytime soon.

i dont' really wanna wait 3 or so years till i can drive and enjoy this car. that's why i'm considering simply rebuilding the 2.3 and fixing the wiring problems, which would be farily cheap and take much less time, allowing me to at the very least use the car as a daily driver for a while, get good at driving stick, and have fun with it for a year or so while i amass parts, finish my motor.

so here's my options: rebuild the old 2.3 (rings, bearings, pistons, possible block work), fix the old wiring, (relatively cheap and i get to drive it). or, find a good 302 and swap it in (a little more expensive, get to drive it). or, take the car apart and get it ready for the new parts, do all the bodywork (bide my time and wait).

thanks for your input guys

Re: Decisions, decisions...

why not get a turbocharged 2.3? it'd end up being cheaper than a 302 swap.

I would wait for the 302, but I realize and understand your circumstances so I can see how the 2.3 looks better and better.

it's looking like i'm gonna go with the 302... my good buddy has persuaded me to get one with EFI. just gotta find one, and a t-5 for it. i got a line on an 86 GT at a junkyard in this area that i can pirate the suspension, k-member and rear end from. hopefully i can at least find some headers and exhaust.
