Do you leave the parts on the tree when you paint?

exactly yes.. except for body parts

+1 for both, though often the parts are attached to the tree in a bad place, so I've been known to cut it off and use a tiny drop of superglue to reattach ther part to the tree using a hidden surface. This is most common for steering wheels.

I always remove and cleanup all parts. Models examined closely will show the difference.

i do both myself. i will leave some on and then pull them off sand them and touch up.

When I spray things I usually take them off the sprue. When handbrushing I always leave on the sprue and touch up.

Actually after some thought, I realize that I remove most, if not all parts from the tree before painting, for the same reason RallyRaider pointed out. I will, like I said before, glue them back to the sprue with a tiny bit of glue, however, using the surfaces designated for mounting. It would be so nice if the model companies would make the attachement points the mounting surfaces from the beginning, so they could save me this step. I really hate touching up, because brush painting never ends up looking like spray paint. Not ever. For me.

I usually take them off but if there is some part that will be hard to reach after assembly (like back side of brake disc) I paint only that back side and then attach it and paint it affter assembly, only thing that I spray paint when on tree are exhaust pipes and after attaching them I detail paint them when they are fixed on model
