Re: turbocharger or supercharger for racing tibs?

From what I've heard the super has been putting out much more impressive numbers on the V6 and more consistently. The turbo will allow more tunability but like I said, from what I've heard the super is the way to go on the 6.

Re: turbocharger or supercharger for racing tibs?

racing tibs?... uhhh welll why do you want a body kit if youre gonna be at the track...
im assunming this will be a drag tib?..or you jus wanna be fast on the street?
if you dont know how to handle a turbo.. and everything involved with maintaining a turbo... dont get a turbo... you blow something... like your engine... you wont have a car
a ssuopercharger has been out... now theres a few for the v6... all with very good numbers...
but very very expensive
all over 3500+

Yeah, get a supercharger if anything. Turbos's are great and all, but unless you have a crapload of $$$, you'll be happier with a super.

Re: turbocharger or supercharger for racing tibs?

turbos are cool, their are alot of diffrent types out there. turbos are more tunner friendly you can ajust boost, i really dont know alot about suppercargers. ive never really had one or worked on one. i have a t25 on my eclipse that i hope to upgrade to a tdo6h 20g. i believe their is alot less supporting mods needed for a supercharger. but there agian, ive never had one. as for a turbo, you can make your own kit. you will of course need to replace your stock fuel pump, injectors, and get a fuel compter. i dont know whats out their for tiburons in the scope of fuel mangment. if you were going to go with a turbo, i'd try the 1g mits turbo, the 14b, its a preatty inexpensive turbo, it pushes like 300cfm's, its actually a better turbo then 2gs t25. but if you want to do the turbo thing, buy a turbo manifod and then just compression bend some pipes, add a blowoff valve, boost controler, and a sidemount intercooler from a nissan, subaru, or dsm. you should be in bussiness.

Re: turbocharger or supercharger for racing tibs?

superchargers take power away from the engine to make power because they run off a belt that is connected to the crank. Turbos don't take power away but they have a delayed reaction (Turbo lag) because the exhaust gases have to spool the turbo before it can work. There are advantages and disadvantages to both. You getting better power at the high end of the power band with a turbo, whereas a supercharger works more towards the lower end. I wonder if anyone has done a combination of a supercharger and turbo to get the benefits of both. Generally speaking superchargers are more effective on V configurations because they have more torque that they can spare to give away to turn the supercharger. With the 4 cyl. I would go with a turbo and with the V6 I would probably choose the supercharger. A twin turbo set-up would be great with the V6 because it eliminates some of the turbo lag if it is set-up properly.

Re: turbocharger or supercharger for racing tibs?

turbo lag isnt relivent when your on the drag strip, a 14b with a proper fuel setup will spool @ 2400 and hit max @ 2900. turbo lag is only a problem when your AR is higher then .42, as but, still a deanieldench is right, depends on the what setup you have, and what you want to do with it. ie drag or cruise. i personaly would turbo, their easier to fix when things go wrong.

you can have lag from superchargers too.

non positive displacement types will give you more lag than a turbo in some cases.

i remeber seeing some tiburons from korea in a magazine that ran 9 second 400meters. had above 600hp.

EDIT

they had just below 600hp, and the length was 300m. then ofg course ther is the mcIntyre twin engine tiburon that ran 10 second quarters.
