paint job. best places?

where are the best places you've gotten paint jobs at? in terms of quality and price.

I have a 90 2-door teg, I wanna get a full paint job, probably the same black color, and also fix a couple minor dents. the driver's side trim also broke off while trying to park next to the garage. lol.

maaco anyone?

Re: paint job. best places?

I paint, so I have never had my vehicles painted. But DONT take a car you care about to maaco. there just mass production shit work. They mix the clear in with your base so they cut down on flash time...things like that makes up for a paint job that will last only a few years. Plus they use sherwin williams low grade base and clear..which is a junk paint anyways..tehre is a reason why there so cheap. I masked a vehicle off that i was installing a blitz kit on and spraying it..when i peeled the 3M masking off guess what....the paint on the fenders and doors peeled right off with it....he said he had it painted at maaco 3 months before that...perfect example. I would save up 1,000 that will get you a good spray job. If you were in the VA area id say id hook you up, but im sure your not, so as far as to reccomend a good booth near you that would be impossable...i would say start goin to local car shows/meets or ask around and get some local word of mouth opinions.

Re: paint job. best places?

for some..it depends on the car, what type of paint, what type of color, if you were staying with the original color,if it needed to be jambed, how much needed to be masked and where you were getting it done... that was an average ballpark number

Do research...yes...Maaco has "higher qaulity" paint job...this bascially means you pay more $$ but still get a crap job. All maaco paint jobs suck, regardless of price or type. There was a guy on here from Hawaii awhile ago how had Maaco do there "highest qaulity" paint job on his 4Runner. It was suppose to have all the little spots fixed and get re-painted black...well...this was Maacoo, it doesn't matter he had there "highest service level." To make a long sotry short, the 4Runner came out Red...the spots were not fixed...they ruined his 4Runner Basically. Bottom line, never take a car to Maaco. Beside a lot more goes into a paint job, you can't just throw a number on one. Is it a Color change or just re-shoot snd freshen up the exterior? What kind of paint are you going to use...then is it a 2-stage...3-stage...how much prep work are you doing...and you stripping it to the bar metal and re-finishing it, etc...Basically, a good paint job has many step. The price has many factors which can influence the price. Maaco has no good paint jobs.

I paint my own cars so it costs me about $400 TOPS for any paint job I want. Where are you from?

Re: paint job. best places?

I agree...maaco wakes money of mass production, not quality. that is why they are so cheap ! But if you use somebody that does side work..make sure you see there work before hand. Also I would go with them to pick out the paint you want and have someone go over which types of paint are available in the color code you want and prices and so forth. Now diff. body shops use diff paint manufacturers so you need to make sure that they have the brand or line your looking for. Just work with whoever you have doing it and youll be golden
