Replacing Fuel Pump - Questions

Hi,
I have a 1994 S10 Blazer 4.3 Vortec and will be replacing the fuel pump shortly since it is making a humming noise. I was wondering what surprises to be aware of and what extra parts I should replace/check when doing this? I know I should replace the pump strainer, but that is all I know. The pump is original, so what is the best one to buy to replace this one? Any upgrades?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My fuel pump makes a humming noise. That's normal, unless it's like high pitched or something like that. If fuel pressure is within specs, then the pump is probably okay. As far as parts to change, the new pump will come with all the stuff you need. Upgrades aren't neccessary unless you plan to make serious modifications to your engine in the future.

The pump is making a pretty loud humming noise, alot louder than it used to be. I think I will replace it to be safe. There is no way for me to check the fuel pressure....unless you know of one?

There's a way to check the fuel pressure. Somewhere on the top end of the engine there will be a valve that will allow you to attach a gauge to it. I suggest you take it to your local Autozone and ask them to check it, or at least find out where the valve is.

Bear of a job. Have to get tank down some to get to the hose fittings on top of tank, if they are real tight it's really tough. No real surprises other than that. Check plug in connector at top of tank, mine was burnt up, inside of tank. Kind of scary to see that.

I think I will take it to Autozone first to check it out. I know it will be a pain to do the job and will definately check the plug in connector at the top of the tank.
