Unhappy My car was stolen

Few days ago I woke up and was getting ready to leave for work, I walk outside and my baby is gone. I ran up and down my street thinking I parked it somewhere else but someone stole. It has been recovered, the car is stripped, I lost most of the parts I put on there. The weird thing is there was no forced entry and my alarm was on. Anyways if anyone in the Bay Area see's any of the parts on my sig for sale anywhere let me know. :\

Re: My car was stolen

I am in Hayward but it was stripped / found in Oakland. I do have full coverage and hopefully will have it back with stock parts as of next week.

Re: My car was stolen

Insurance won't give you hardly anything for those mods unless you had extra coverage for them. Having a modded Civic stolen sucks ass because those parts aren't exactly rare.

Re: Re: My car was stolen

wow that sucks. i can't believe they stole it that easily, because over the winter i locked my keys in my car and had to call a locksmith to get my car open, but the funny thing is, is that he couldn't get it open. he said it was the hardest car he has ever tried to get into. finally about an hour later he got it open with a long metal stick that was about 10-8 gauge, he had to wedge it in between the weatherstripping on my door and then hit the power locks to get it unlocked. it made me kind of happy to see that my car is one of the hardest to get into even for a professional. well i hope you have some luck on your side to find your parts.

Re: Re: My car was stolen

i don't know, he had all the special tools to slide down the window, but none of those seemed to work. i am pretty sure he was well known in the area because he had a big van with advertising all over it and the place i was at when i locked my keys in my car recomended him because he was good and cheap.

Just because he had the tools doesn't mean he knew how to use them. Not to mention, good and cheap rarely go hand in hand. You get what you pay for.

Some theft rings have the master keys to cars now, so all the need to do is open the door, clip the alarm, drive away. I know a guy how's teg was jacked, the guy had the master key..he saw the guy stealing it, and the guy threw it in reverse and in jumped a curb, over a hedge and onto a V6 Camero...at least the guy got caught...both cars were totaled.

As for insurence, they have to give you "fair market value" for your car. This is the value your car could have sold for before it was stolen, not the "blue book value." In some cases with certain cars/mods, it can be more than blue book, though is usually less than the retail cost of all the mods. Most people don't usually argue for "fair market value," as it usually ends up requiring a lawyer and a lot of arguing. If you want to, you'll start by finding ads of comparable cars with comparable mods in the area for sale. If you can find an "expert witness" who will testify your car could have sold for a certain amount before it was stolen, that helps too. Also, people who would have paid that amount for it before hand can be used to prove "fair market value." A combination of these things and a good lawyer is the best approach if you want to try and get "fair market value." Just look around and make sure it's enough of a difference that it's worth the trouble. I don't think the mods you listed in your sig would make a huge difference in this regard though, so in my not be worth your trouble (though that's up to you). I hope this helps a bit.
