Hello All,
I just inheirited a '96 S-10 from my gradfather. Just started looking at performance stuff for it and realized my little 2.3L p.o.s. isn't gonna get me anywhere... any help or suggestions as to a V-8 to swap in or tranny for the V-8 would be greatly appreciated...along with any suggestions as to how much $$$$ im looking to spend....i don't care how much...just looking for an idea (below lik $10k) OsiriS16 |

Drop a ls1 or lt1 with a 6 speed transmission in it and then you be going at it like only a few others. If you search the web there is a company out of texas that will seel the wiring harness to match up to your stock harness and the mounting should be easy because there a few people out there that have shoehroned them in because the motor mounts are the same on a 350 as they are on a 4.3l v-6. The only fabrication will be a new cross member for the transmission and to get the drive shaft shortend. I thought about doing the swap to a v-8 but I think that I am going to build my 4.3l and turbo charge the crap out of it.

By the way you could probably get away for under $5 to 6k with it done right.

Basically, the stock setup for a 4.3 will work with a small block except for length related issues (rad. shroud, etc.). The stock T4 4-speed in my 4x4 was the same length as a 350 turbo, mounts all lined right up.

Re: S-10 V-8 Engine Swap HELP!!
I have seen some people with a 350 and they put the radiator on oposite side of header and went with dual electric fans instead of belt driven, got to keep that beast cool

Re: S-10 V-8 Engine Swap HELP!!
I put a 350, carborated motor in my 87 GMC, for around $2,000 (including $300.00 for motor). I did not use any kits, because they tend to be more trouble the their worth.
The usual fabs: new tranny mount, shortened driveshaft ( one piece ). Use a short shaft waterpump, electric fans help. I used exhaust manifolds off a 305 chevy (camero I think), heavier front springs. Oh yeah, I almost forgot, GAS MONEY !!! |
