Angry What's the problem 98 GA SE

OK here's what happened. Yesterday i was driving and my check engine light came on. I was right by a bunch of E-way ramps so i kept going until i came to a gas station. After stoppping at a light i couldn't get my car to go over 20 without the RPMs going insane. Later after leaving it set for about 6 hours it could go 40mph but the RPM's were around 3500-4000. Anyone have any clues to what it is?

I'm certainly NO expert or even all that car savvy but to me, it sounds like something with the transmission. Maybe the car isn't going into gear fully? Hopefully someone else will be able to diagnose something better.

could be the shifter is in 2 but looks like its in d or 3 then it stays in second gear as you go faster the rpms will climb and it wont shift.

Re: What's the problem 98 GA SE

It turns out that it was a fuel pump throttle sensor. easy repair. Took about an hour. Oy.. that car has given me more problems than my 89 safari SW! While we were getting it fixed we test drove a pontiac Vibe. That is one sweet car!
