On the axle tube on the front side is a set of numbers.
you can decode if it is stock
also if it's not posi you can jack one wheel up mark the drive shaft and tire make one turn on the tire and count the turns on the drive shaft
you can a good I idea that way 2.5 turn 2:56 2.75 turns 2:73 and so on
the only true way is pop the cover and count teeth.
My guess if it's a plain jane is 2:56 or 2:73
Powerglide 1.76 1.00 - - - - 1.76
Powerglide 1.82 1.00 - - - -
TH350 2.52 1.52 1.00 - - - 1.93
TH400 2.48 1.48 1.00 - - - 2.00
Don't get talked into swapping to a th400
unless your making more the 500hp not likly for most street small blocks
I know there are some but the same car will always run better times with the th350 due to it lower 1-2 gear ratios.
If anyone question the strengh of a gm trans there are guys running 9 sec powerglides so it can be done.
