Won't start!

Okay, here's my problem!

When trying to start my 1987 Dodge Ram Charger LE 4x4 (fuel-injected), it appears to load up on gas in the carbuerator. While trying to start the engine (hot or cold, doesn't matter) a real strong gas smell appears and the starter kicks out. I have had this sent to a mechanic's who put it on a diagnostic machine that showed the map sensor was the problem. Last winter we had this problem, the starter was replaced, the problem seemed solved, until this winter when the problem started up again. Also, I took the vehicle to a friend who has worked over the years on Dodge products and he claimed that he thought it was an o-ring in the carbuerator. He had the vehicle for about a week, had no problems with it, and did not replace anything in it. Another neighbor made comment of it possibly being a relay.

If anyone can tell me what's wrong with this, then I would really appreciate some help with this. If anyone has a suggestion please reply to this post right away.
