Hi
I'm new to this board and I would like to say hello to everyone first .Ok I have a 1989 CRX Si since 2 years and now I have really big problems with it. At first I had starter problems, I bought a new one and it was still screwing up so I had to jump start the CRX alone and it can be a pain hehe. Ok now that seems ok (the starter turns now) but one day a friend of mine was using it and suddenlly the engine turned off and it never started again. I looked a bit at it and the timing belt is still there so that's not it. But one thing that bugs me is when the towing wench the car on the plateform it was shifted in 1st gear and was not compressing... (he was winching it from the rear bumber so backward but I still think it's suppopse to jump anyway). It seems like the engine blew. What I think: There is 3 reasons (that I can see) why a car doesn't start. 1- There is no sparks on the spark plugs, which means I have a electronical problem. 2- There is no gas going into the engine, which me the gas pump is fucked or I have injection trouble. 3- The engine blew, which means you either rebuilt it or buy a new one. So, what you guys think it's wrong with the damn thing ? And what are the possible solutions to solve that problem? I'm really tempted to get a B18 to put in (I heard it's no fiting just srew it there and it fits perfectly) but I wonder how much money that will cost. Also the frame of the car is not in great shape (damn canadian winters), there is 2 hole under and one in the rear left wing. the outside frame is all good tho, only a few rust spot, like 2 or 3. So I wonder if it's worth putting alot of money in that CRX, of try to make it run and sell it to get another one in better shape...Looking foward for any advice, Pat. YOU can't just toss in a B18 into a CRX. Your Si has a D16 in it and the B18 is obviously not the same series, so the trannies won't bolt up. If you really want to but in a B series motor you are gonna need a new tranny, computer, motor mounts, axles, shift linkage. The only motor that bolts right in is the ZC. Which is a 1.6 liter non - VTEC engine.
As for the engine not starting, I am not sure why. It could be so many different things. But I don't know why the hell you tried to jump start it by towing the car backwards. That must have screw up your car even more. |

LOL
geez that board didn't want me to log in had to make another registration... anyway.
ok I didn't try to jump start it backwards man why in the world would I try to do that??? It's when the towing came to pick it up he was pulling it on the plateform with a winch and the car was shifted in 1st gear and the engine had no sign of compression (like when you jump start)... So that might means the engine is dead. |

If you checked that the t belt was there, did you try starting the car to see if the cam was turning?
To check for spark, unplug one of the spak plug wires the put an old spark plug on the end and ground the electrode to a bolt on the valve cover. Then start, you should see a spark crossing the gap of the spark plug. To check for gas pressure, unscrew the gas line at the filter on the firewall(be carefull not to lose the little washers) and put the key on,fuel should come out. Check these, but your problem could range from a bad ignition coil to a stripped t belt,it's kinda hard to diagnostic on the net but keep us informed |

when you try starting it...what does it do? does it click, or turn over, but wont catch or nothing at all?? have you checked the simple stuff out, like the connections to the batteries, grounds and the battery itself?

Really that board is weird.
ok account no3 I don't know my browser seems messed up at home...
![]() Ok yeah I know how to check that stuff out I didn't cause it's winter up here right now and my car is stored under the snow, I don't use it during winter I use my 4X4... When I start the starter turns but the engine doesn't start up. And it makes some weird sound from I don't know exactly where... Sounds like when you throw a loonie on the ground (ding ding li ding) hehe Kinda hard to tell over the net .I didn't check that out tho if the cam was turning even if the timing belt is there, but I looked at the belt and it was not stripped... |

Unless I'm dumb and it's been said already, I'd say you've broken your cam belt. Which means it's possible you've bent valves in the engine. Which means it'd be cheaper to buy a whole new engine than to get it fixed.
My $0.02

Re: Hello everyone
Hey CRX bandit,
Please check the post dates on the topics you are responding to. This post is over 2 years old and back then the forum was not divided between the different generations of CRXs (84-87 and 88-91). It's great to have new people contributing to the forums, but old threads are better left dead since the originator of the topic has probably moved on. |
