Canadian GTO?

When will GM ever bring the new 04'/05' GTO to Canada?

Re: Canadian GTO?

acctully thats not the reason, the gto didnt meet the emmissions standards, so its not leagle here. and there are cars from dealer that have a lower bumper than the new gto. so.... maybe tell pontiac to get there act togather and fix the emmissions.

Re: Canadian GTO?

They should keep in in Austrailia where it belongs.

Holden makes it and to me it is a joke to ruin an America icon like that.

Dodge did the same thing when they built the new 300C in Canada then made the Hemi motor in Mexico. The only part made in America is the tranny.

Taking a Holden or a Mercedes and placing a trademark tag on it was a big mistake.

I guess the people that were mergering America in 2000 got greedy. Now they are stuck with them.

If I was a shareholder I would be fuming at that decision.

They will never be worth anything close to the originals when they get old.

Ever considered to think that 2004-on GTOs will make GM shareholders a hell of a lot more money than those non-existent 1975-2003 GTOs did?

Btw, why do '04 GTOs pass US emissions requirements yet supposedly fail Canadian emissions? Are Canadian emmission regulations tougher than US ones?

Practically every auto manufacturer is assembling cars outside of its "home" country. Those days have been gone for a long time now. But I don't necessarily think it can spoil the heritage just because of it (I'm NOT defending the GTO though - why not have just made it the new Grand Prix SS or something???). My car was built in Canada but to me I'm driving a piece of muscle/pony car history with a rich American tradition (albeit on hiatus for a while now lol).

Re: Canadian GTO?

i think that the gto name wuld not have been used if the firebird name wuld not have been facing some leagal issues.

What gm and other car companies have been doing has been happening for some time now. for exaple a wery large part of all the cars in the world use musubishi windshield wiper motors. ist just a question of who can make it best at the lowest price.

like the mexico gm plant. it uses exactly the same building materials and equipment as the u.s. did in the old days but the workforce is willing to settle for alot less pay than people in the u.s.

Its realy sad that this is the way things are developing but on the other hand it keeps the prices on cars low. the cars are still made with the american market in mind and you still get the large v-8's with tons of torqe and a huge gastank

what holden is concerned i personaly like what they are doing they are taking all kinds of cars and slapping a huge ls1 engien in them and they use the classic formula "front mounted engien, rear wheel drive". they have also been thinking of makin a car with a v-6 3.6L twin turbo engien (curently used in some cadillacs i think witout the turbos) and the engien produces an enormous 380 BHP!
