Adjustable headlights for European driving
I have a 1997 523i SE Auto. I drive it in the UK. I have noticed that the headlights seem to have the ability to be adjusted for driving on the right side of the road. There's some sort of adjuster on the top of each headlight unit. I can't get them to move. Does anyone know how to do this? It would beat putting yellow stickers over them when I go to France?

Hi, Andy!
Sorry, but I have no useful information for you. My car is much older, a 1985. Headlights are adjustable on mine. There are a couple of screws that can raise and lower the beams, and aim them right or left. All of the cars I've ever had could be adjusted. Is there anything in your owner's manual? Could you contact your local dealer and speak to one of the mechanics? Good luck! Flunky PS-Replies are in short supply on this board. Knowledgeable replies are even more scarce...that's why the three of us who post regularly try to help each other. |

Hey Flunky,
Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, I don't have an owner's manual! The irony is...I work for BMW!! I'll ask one of the engineers here, but they're hard to get hold of. On this 5 series, there's a large two-way "switch" that's labelled indicating that it's for turning the lights to face one way or the other. On mine, it just won't budge, so I was thinking maybe it's locked somehow. I've downloaded a Yank owner's manual off the web, but it isn't mentioned - not surprising, as they wouldn't have any need to have adjustable lights.. AndyXR |
