Re: Gear swap

No 2 tenths is about right, going from 2.73's to 3.73's you get about 5 tenths and going from 2.73's to 3.23's you get 2 -3 tenths , So I would say 2 tenths most likely if your lucky 3 tenths

Re: Gear swap

That's it, I thought you'd gain a lot more, isn't going from 3.08s to 3.73 like adding 75HP, that's what I heard. Gears dont even sound worth it anymore

Re: Gear swap

2 tenths is alot , how many mods do you think will show results like that?, also 3.73's are awesome it will feel more like 5 tenths than 2 but if every mod you did added results like that 12's and 11's would be easy

Re: Gear swap

the gears themselves will prolly only add two tenths, but when you combine them with all the other stuff one has, it could be up around 3-5 tenths, which is a noticable difference...atleast thats how i always understood it to work...

Re: Gear swap

the key is gears and a converter. i put the 2800 stall converter in my IROC and shes runnin like a champ, but shes hatin those 2.77's, (Borg Warner rear) when i put in the torsen rear with 3.23 gears, shell wake up a helluva lot more.

Re: Gear swap

the gears are just torque multipliers. they will give you a hella of alot more torque and let your engine rev in the higher rpm's faster. theris really no wat to tell in thents an improvement, but your shift points will change. i think for 3.73 you might redline in first at 30mph. oh and make sure you dont need a special adaption kit for those gears. 4.10's need a special install kit but i'm not sure if the 3.73 needs it

Re: Gear swap

The special install kit is only needed when you go from a type 2 carrier (2.73-3.08) to type 3 Carrier gears 3.23's and higher but he already has the right carrier so as long as he doesn't have any rear end damage the basic install kit should do

Re: Gear swap

um, maybe im wrong, but a posi IS a limited slip differential from what i understand. positraction is an open rear end with clutch packs in it to limit the slip, hence the name. as opposed to a locking differencial that makes the rear end one solid axle shaft. not from experience but from what the other guys are saying, i would say around .2 seconds improovement for those gears as well.

Re: Gear swap

I've heard that echnically Posi is not the same as LSD, but the same effect... and LAD is better, more modern tech.
