Re: 97 honda civic

how much money do you have to spend? Suspension is an area that you don't want to go cheap on. Do it right the first time or don't do it at all.

Stay away from cheap coilover sleeves like the type you posted. If you go the sleeve route go with Ground Controls with Eibach Springs.

Honda/Acura wheels/tires/SUSPENSION! forum Your question on tips/suggestions has been asked many times.

Don't be cheap with suspension or you will regret it. Best advice for an every day driven car: 1.5" quality drop springs & quality aftermarket struts. Adjustable ride height is too much of a hassle for street use, IMO. That's if you set it up correctly & not by eye.

Re: 97 honda civic

if money is not an issue go for skunk2 coilovers with koni yellow shocks. those would be ideal for some daily drivers

Re: Re: 97 honda civic

If moneys not an issue then why are you looking into coilover sleeve springs? My best suggestions 1. true coilovers such as H&R or Tein
2. normal lowering springs & aftermarket struts
3. last option: sleeves(Ground Controls) with aftermarket struts
4. Honda/Acura wheels/tires/SUSPENSION! forum

Re: 97 honda civic

i'm here for the same thing. i've got the skunk 2 coils now and i'm still riding on stock shocks.

thinking about some KYB's.....only b/c i have a hook up and can get them at his price.

then again, i dunno. i don't want to go cheap but i do want to spend less for a good product.

i also have a 97 civic ex.

Re: 97 honda civic

i suggested the koni yellows because they are a great daily driver shock. the teins are more for track imo.

hotgrl--the skunk2's are a great choice but depending on your drop, your shocks are going to go very quickly.. stock shocks are not meant to handle any kind of drop. so you should pick up some kyb agx shocks. they have the adjustable damper which is what your going to want. other choices for adjustable damper shocks: tokico illumina's or the koni yellows.. but they increase in price in that order

KYB AGX are some really great shocks. Teins are great for street or track, considering you don't go above the SS line. After that it's a little over kill IMO unless you're into road racing or auto-x.

Re: 97 honda civic

thanks for the great advice. and yes, i like my car slammed. right now it's raised a little higher than i like b/c of the winter. i've yet to drop it back down b/c i plan to do that when i do the shocks.

i'll prolly stick w/ the KYB's.

i'm into the road racing and auto x but i've yet to try it. lol i've only been doing the drag racing.

right now, i'm really trying to not do to much more the the car......i want out of apartments and into a house. then i'll worry about fixing up the car. just trying to put my priorities straight.

thanks again!

Liz

Re: Re: 97 honda civic

KYB does not suggest more than 2" drop or adjustable "sleeve"springs.

Re: 97 honda civic

hmmmmm that's a thought. i'll have to check on how low i go. i know the wheels are tucked so that's prolly more than 2".
maybe i should go w/ the tokico illumina's.

Re: Re: 97 honda civic

I should have said, KYB & Tokico are both STOCK length struts. Neither is recommended with 2" or more drop because of the minimal suspension travel(bottom out suspension) + the struts is always compressed which means poor performance & premature wear. 2" drop or more - 1. True coilovers(H&R, Tein, Toda, etc.) 2. Koni sports or Bilsteins HD
