Civic 2001 Wheel and Tire
Hi,
I've noticed the Civic 2002 Concept R has 18x7 wheels with 225/40/18 tires. I am now considering 18inch rims for my civic. 18x7.5 actually. I was woundering if i use the exact same spec for wheels/tire combo on my car will fit with no modification. 225 is fairly large and 40's is fairly high compared to all the previous generations. Ive also noticed the wheel well of the 7th gen civic is much larger. so does the 18x7 wrapped with 225/40 tires will be a perfect fit? Thank You James. here is the URL for the concept R forum http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...=concept+civic |

225/40 may be a bit large for your car on some 18's. I would suggest some 215/35-18 ...they will have a smaller footprint, but they should fit better. Also, if you're planning to lower your car, or already have...you MAY run into problems with the 225/40-18....personallly i like maximum wheel, minimum tire space anway

however.....i failed to realize you had a 2001 Civic.....they're wheel wells are a tad bit more spacious then previous models......you might be able to get away with it....the only thing i'd be concerned about is the width.....you may lose some fenders if you decide to lower your car

thanks jimmyfunk
yea... i was considering..... 215/40/18. do u think it will fit better?? i know you have recommended 215/35/18 but like we both realized.. the 7th gen wheel well is a little larger and i would like to take advantage of the space for thicker tire for a better ride and protection of my wheels from potholes. yes. my car has coilovers at the moment.... i am not intending for a rim tuck look but just a minor drop that will eliminate the gap between the tire and the fender. so.... will 215/40/18 be a good size? i've also noticed that my local honda dealer sells 205/45/17 wheels on their new civics as a dealer option. so i assumed... from 17", 45 seriers tire, to an increase in wheel...18".. 40 series tire. ... anyway... i'm not really sure what size to get for my car becuase i do not want to shave my fenders or make any un needed cuts in my new car. thanks in advance...

Since you are concerned about protecting your rims.....a 215/40-18 will give you more protection than a 215/35-18, however, with any low-profile tire protection won't be great. And since you have the adjustability of coilovers you shouldn't have any problem with the height of the firewall....whether it's a 215/40 or a 215/35, you'll be able to adjust for the look you want. But from hearing what you're concerns are.....i would probably go with the 215/40-18....it will give you the extra protection and it will take a LITTLE bit of the space out of the wheel well. What brands of tires are you considering??..

also.....use the wheel/tire size calculator in the FAQ's section (link below) to figure out how different sizes will affect the performance of your car, it's a great tool that may help you make a
decision. www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html

i love the tread design on the Parada's, looks awesome...it's one of the nices looking tires on the market.....i know yokohama is a good brand.....but i haven't heard much on how good the parada's are as far as performance goes...But I think that would be a good set up
