Exhaust!!
I have a 98 silverado with the 5.7 vortec, The truck has dual exhaust on it, straight-pipes to be exact. The local athorities however, put an end to that tonight, i have 15 days to fix it. I still want the noise when i stomp on it, but want a nice deep tone otherwise. I was told to go with a Borla or a Gibson. Any recomendations would be appreciated!

loudness
Depends on how loud. Will they cite you again if replacement is too loud?
I have heard nothing but great things with Gibson. I had a Flowmaster system on a 3L Ford Ranger, 50-series muffler, single outlet, sounded great, not too loud, more importantly lowered heat when towing my small boat. I have heard that Flowmaster can be lout, depending on muffler model. Currently have a '96 Suburban 5.7L with factory exhaust. When it fails, a Gibson single outlet will replace it. I believe you will be happy with either Gibson or Flowmaster. Good luck! |

Re: Exhaust!!
That is a pretty funny trick but Getting caught after you burn the steel wool out will just piss the police off even more and draw more attention than you want to yourself, Im running 20 series Flowmasters on my truck and it sounds great when you get on it and idles with a little rumble, not obnoxious! Do yourself a favor and fix it right the first time.

Re: Exhaust!!
Same in kentucky. Hell' most of us don't have a complete body little on a muffler. Funny how age will install straight pipes for free if you wait.

I also live in S. Ga. and I know 2 in the last month who were charged 105.00 each... 1 for loud mufflers and 1 for the boom-boom noise...if the locals continue to enforce the law maybe my property taxes will go down,or maybe not rise as fast>>>

Re: Exhaust!!
Where in south Ga do you live? The cops are really leniant on stuff like that here. They will at least warn you a few times before they actually do anything. But if you don't heed their warnings..they will wreak havoc on them. I passed one of the deputy's one day (passed, not met in the road) going to a fire, and he wrote me a 103 mph speeding ticket. I finally convinced him to tear it up! lol

Re: Exhaust!!
jeverett.., I live s. of Valdosta and I have a son who is with Twin Lakes V.F.D. Several years ago when the firemen were allowed to go on fire calls in their POVs equipped with sirens and emerg. lights they were not allowed to exceed the posted speed limit....I was told that lights and sirens were to request the traffic to yield.....not to allow the vehicle to speed....

Re: Exhaust!!
You are right..to an extent. You can exceed the speed limit, but only by 15 mph. THe sirens and lights are only a request for motorists to yeild to you and let you by. I wasn't abusing my privledge, that was the only time that has happened. A prision was on fire in the neighboring county, and I was on the way..operationg lights ans siren to full extent, and even the cop wouldn't yield to me , which in turn made me kind of mad at him..so I had to let him see that a 4x4 can outrun his Crown Vic...

You gotta be careful with that stuff. I used to have a 4 door Tahoe with an expensive light package that I used to run around Houston in(I was and still am a vollie). I decided not to put anything in my new truck, mostly because I didn't want to drill any holes, but also because it has the potential to bring down a lot of heat on the volunteer Fire Service. There have been several people(cops even) who have killed or seriously injured people while running "hot", and then been asked in court how important it was that they get to that incident. Even if nobody gets hurt, there is still potential to give a bad image to the public if a vollie reponding POV is driving dangerously. Please don't take this as preaching, I'm just trying to look out for my fellow vollie.
