Angry Need serious help with my bimmer guys...

Hey guy's i have a 1985 stock bimmer 3 series. 318 i believe. And i have about 186,434K on it, and i can see that it's dying a slow death... The engine looks pretty bad, but i wonder if i can spend about under 10K fixing it up?

What i want to do is make this thing go really fast... Dose anyone out there know anything about buying BMW engines that will fit my car, like special engine not stock?

Please let me know, i dont feel like buying another used car, or do you think that's the best way out? Should i just buy another different car or what?

But let me know if there are any ways i can get a faster/better engine and even supercharge or even turbo in these kind of cars... LMK

[email protected]

Thanks!!!

-Danny

Hi i guess the best option is to do an overhaul of the engine. Get rid of all the carbon deposits, and fill it up with the best synthetic engine oil you can find and see whether it gets better. Try to change all the fluids in the car too ( transmission, brake, coolent) For better performance, you may want to change to better sparkplugs, cables, air filter and so on. For even more performance, you got to upgrade your exhaust system, manifold, change the camshafts, upgrade to larger wheels etc and so on.
Hope this is useful!

You can fit a inline six in your car for about 4 or 5 thousand dollars and then it will really move, but i dont think that includes labor. The best engine swap that will really make your car move is the M50 engine swap.
But if the engine is in such bad shape, the car as a whole is probably not in very good shape. if your from up north, then obviously everything will be pretty rusty from the salt. i would check out all that before doing any type of engine swaps or engine overhaul.

Re: Need serious help with my bimmer guys...

to be honest man, there is no need to even try to throw a skyline engine in a bimmer... if your lookin to swap in any type of motor, find yourself a 2000+ M3 motor and driveline. becuase the fabrication need to swap an RB would take a couple months. the swap with the M3 would be ten times easier. the motor if you find the right one would probably run you like 7 or 8 grand. but who knows... you can find one for even cheaper. but back to the original question.
i actually just or am about to be finished swapping a 1897 325i motor tranny and driveline into a 1984 325e chassis. the only thing that needed any real fabrication was two mounts for the ABS system. everything else basiaclly bolts right in. so if you can find a newer bimmer motor trans driveline and diff. then you're set.
and turbos/ superchargers are WAY over priced, well for that matter all bimmer parts are over priced. but with the chassis you have, an 1990's motor would put u probably into the mid 14's and with an intake, exhaust and chip you'd be runnin just fine. in total that would probably run you any where from 6 to 9... but take my advice, this is quite a task you're thinking about undertaking. its alot of work but very little fabrication.

hope that helps
