No spark

Howdy people....
My kid has got a 91 Geo which he had to change out the distributor because the ignition coil blew, (non replaceable as a separate part.)

Anyway, 3 months later same thing no spark so we replaced the distributor but to no avail.

Question, does this sound like crankshaft sensor?, does this car even have one?

Is there a fuse that may be blown? His car is 150 miles south of me and I cant get down there to verify any of his findings but if someone can give me any info on what else he can check.

We get starter turning fast enough but no spark at all from plugs. Coil shows proper resistance and ignitor is not checkable or so I'm told. Battery died and cant get any trouble codes.

Also, if I find rotor not even spinning what should I suspect for that?

Thanks in advance...!!!

First, I would make sure the coil is providing no spark. Unplug the wire that goes from the coil to the distributor, and lie it on the block, then crank the engine. If that sparks, your coil is good. If you crank the engine and the rotor in the cap doesn't turn, either the camshaft snapped, or the timing belt broke. The metros didn't have a crank sensor until 95', and the cam sensor is built into the distributor. Have him check the timing belt. That's what it sounds like to me.

Re: No spark

Thank you so much geozukigti. You confirmed everything I found out today. The rotor is not spinning, it is the timing belt. And the sensors are all built into the distributor. You are right on the money.

I really do appreciate you're quick and easy to read response. Hats off to you!

The car is so otherwise beat I think my kid will end up trashing the car ( he got stopped 4 times in one day out here in this area where everyone seems to be a doctor or lawyer judging by the cars they drive....)

Again thanks so much...peace be with you.

Anytime. The timing belt isn't a hard thing to fix. Only takes about an hour and a half. If anything, list it for sale. You can get a couple hundred easy from Ebay. People are looking for fix-em-up Geo's all the time. Where are ya from? I can post it for sale in a few other forums if ya like. And take some pictures.
