molding the bodykit??

what are the steps to molding a bodykit???The way I did it must have been wrong because now its cracking.Please help

well that could be caused for many reasons bro. Did the filler get wet at any time before or after you primered it ? did you mix the filler to lean or rich ..was it more gray or more red ? How was the kit seccured to the vehicle ? How much room did you leave for the blend ? what grit sandpaper did you use to knock it back ?

When molding in fiberglass bodykits, there is never a guarantee that it wont crack, Most of the body shops around me wont do it cause they might eventually crack. Just wondering, did you just use bondo to fill in the whole thing, or did you build it up with fiberglass or something else before you used bondo to smooth it into the body.

If you used bondo, thats definatly one of the reasons it's cracking. Duraglass, for example would be a much better product to use than bondo...if you used bondo. Bondo tends to crack, especially if it gets wet or if it is laid on in anything more than a thin layer...and molding a kit is a lot more than a thin layer for sure.

Whether you used bondo or not, here's a hint...tr to stay away from using bondo if you can.

exactly, bondo is ment for filling and evening out of flat areas of work..not for molding or blending of panels.....grind your area clear..but dont let the metal on the metal on teh body overheat or it will oilcan ! then blend it with fiberglass ( make sure you wear longsleeves and gloves ) and build it up to make the blend...sand it back using 80 grit but when in final stages of smoothing it out use 180 grit.....are you sure you want to be doing this yourself tho ? there is a reason why body work is a skill and expensive to have done

First I used bondo glass to secure it and then sanded that down and used bondo to finish.now im gonna sand it all back down to nothing and use fiberglass and do it right.

yeah, thats your best bet man... just remember to wear long sleeves and gloves...dont wait for it to fully dry before applying th enext layer or you will never build it up..and sand it with 80grit..then 180 when smoothing it out when your done..and its ok to use a LITTLE filler when your all done if you need to smooth it out a lil more....if you need any further help or questions man feel free to hit me up on aol, my screen name is wastedgargoyle, i can walk you thru anything pretty much
