All, I have 160K on my GLE automatic.
The tach jumps around like mad when I'm driving. The engine spins as it should and drives nice and smooth, but the needle is totally spastic. It jumps to beyond the redline and hangs there then it blurrs back and forth for a while. The dealer tells me there's no fix for it as there is no Tach Cable to replace, it's an electronic guage with a sensor somewhere. Any help?? It drives me NUTZ!! Thanks, |

Re: 1996 maxima tach indicator JUMPY!!
I have the same problem on my 96 SE 5 speed max 154K. It doesn't happen all the time, seems like only when the car warms up. And it only happens between 2000 and 3000 RPM. It quits if the tach goes over 3k and below 2k. Also need help!

My maxima had the same problem and the engine light was on as well. So I took it to the dealership and they diagnosed that it was the Coolant Temperature Sensor. Had it replaced at a local mechanic since the dealership charges an arm and a leg for it. The car has been running fine since. The tach doesn't flicker an
ymore and the engine light is off.
