Weapon R Intake

Does anybody hear have one? My brother is thinking about buying one for his Maxima and wants to know how it sounds/performs.

Re: Weapon R Intake

i have one. it's the only kind of intake I buy. i had one on my 96 200sx se-r, my 1995 maxima and now one on my new maxima. it's said to make an average of 7 hp gains and peaks of 10-12.

it makes as much power as almost all of the cold airs.

I agree. I don't think any of the intake manufacturers do enough R&D and tuning specifically for each car. Just pick one that looks and sounds good. You're not going to get any more than 1-2 HP, at the most, and you will most likely lose TQ somewhere in the rev range. I have read a lot about intakes, and a lot of the manufacturers claim "10-12HP", but in reality that is not true. Most people, on the dyno, see little to no gain or slight losses.

Well he ordered his Weapon R intake today. He's really excited(weren't we all). I raced him today to get a comparison before and after the intake. Of course with his car being stock and mine having a few intake/exhaust mods i kicked his butt. Once he gets it installed we'll race again and see if there is any difference in his performance.

I really doubt that there will be that much gain. When I installed my intake I didn't really feel anything, I just heard it. The sound alone is enough to make me happy.

They are all pretty much the same, it's just a matter of preference. I've always gone with the Injen Intakes and have never had a problem. I've used K&N as well with equally good results. I haven't added an open air intake on my Max yet, but I could definately feel a big difference when I put it on my Turbo Eclipse. Then again, that's a Turbo and our Max's are naturally aspired, so getting all the extra cold air pumping right into your turbo IS going to make a big difference. As for losing torque, I've never heard of that one, nor felt a loss in my Eclipse.
You probably won't FEEL a big difference in our Maxima's, but the sound you get from it and the way it looks under the hood makes it worth the money.

Re: Weapon R Intake

For the last time, forget about all of these Aftermarket Intakes (sure they look cool under the hood) but for what you pay for them and not to mention the bottom end torque that you loose<you really loose both money and power.

Just do a GAB and listen to the sound and feel the power that you gain, did I mention that it is free?

You're probably right. The only problem with that, is a lot of people aren't willing to cut a hole in there airbox. I told my brother to do it but, he didn't want to mess up his stock air box just in case anything happened.

Well, FYI, with the new GAB you don't have to cut your stock air box. I will take a picture of my new GAB and then you can set yours up that way, it gives a great sound, everyone keeps asking me what kind of intake do I have under the hood.

I just tell them it's a GAB, then they say "What's a GAB?"

I love to hear that, then I just start laughing and I pop the hood and show them.

Another FYI, I don't have the link anymore but there was a member of Maxima.org who had 3 different intakes (I forget which ones) and he dynoed with all of them, it showed maybe at the most a 7hp gain (so Intakes do work) but it also showed some loss of torque on the bottom end but an overall gain in hp, especially up in the higher rpm range.

This same org member<I forget who it was, ended up removing his Aftermarket Intakes upon the discovery of the GAB, so he decided to try the GAB because he didn't like the loss of torque on the low end.

Well, he posted an 11hp gain and he even had a dyno plot to show it and also a comparison chart to show his previous Aftermarket Intakes vs his GAB mod.

I wish I had saved the link, I would've posted it here.

I'm getting ready to go out and take a pic of my GAB set up before it gets too dark and then I will post it for you guys later.
