Do they make turbos for the LS1???

I have been searching far and wide for the past 3 months and i still have yet to find a turbo that will fit on an LS1!!!! I know there are many supercharger systems out there but a turbo is healthier for the engine, not to mention more power. I know Garrett made a i think it was a T4 turbo for like the 1989 turbo trans am but the problem with my 99 WS-6 that i think might be the reason for no turbo.........THERE'S NO DAMN ROOM IN THE ENGINE BAY!!!! The belts and pulleys are nearly touching the fans and i don't see how a turbo could fit in there unless it was paper flat. So if any of you know of any websites, stores, whatever that sells a turbo to fit a 99 LS1 TA, plz let me know.

Re: Do they make turbos for the LS1???

there must be a turbo out there, but i dont think ive seen any info on one. id much rather supercharge it. constant boost, better for low end power. plus it sounds alot more muscle car ish. and should be cheaper.

There are a few out there. Very few.

STS makes a kit for it. Its a rear mounted kit. Turbo is mounted back by the rear axle and intake tube is run up to the engine bay. They use a T60 or T67.

For more, go on www.ls1tech.com and go to the Forced Induction section.

Good luck!

(Personally, I'd just grab a D1SC or a P1SC and let'er rip! )

That's the problem with most of the turbo kits for the LS1s. Most are crap. Some are good(STS...Quartermile Performance). Its just better and a whole lot easier(much less a lot cheaper as you said) to get a good blower (Vortech or ATI) and throw on our cars.

I agree, a good blower will work better than a turbo on an f-body and it'll be less expensive and easier to install as well.

Do you know where i could get one, how much it would cost (to buy and installation), and if it requires any other modifications to install?

www.procharger.com

I ordered a 4# P1SC for the 99-02 Fbodies(yes, my car is a 98..but still fit no problems). Cost on the kits, differs from each kit. I bought my kit for 4200 from Outlawperformance.com If you want more boost, pullies cost a little more(MMS was 160). Here are some other things you have to consider.

1. Injectors. You'll need a set of 36# injectors at least. I have seen them go for as little as 300 for the set. They are easy to swap out to..if you need help on that, let me know.

2. Programming. This depends on where you go, who does it and what kind of tune. If you have a stock engine or near stock, I know Ed Wright at Fastchip.com does a good job on mail order. I don't know his prices off the top of my head but that's for starters. If you're near San Antonio Tx, Fuel Injection Specialties does a good job too. Plan on spending 600(probably less...but better to plan on it costing more so you have some room to play with).

As far as installing it. Here is what you would need for the procharger. Set of basic tools(wrenches/screwdrivers/etc), a drill, 24mm socket with a breaker bar and torque wrench, a few hex wrenches and thats about it. The manual they give you with the kit lists everything. There is no tapping into your oil pan because the P1SC and D1SC is self contained. If you are any good mechanical wise, you can do it in a weekend no problem. You will need to get a set of NGK TR6 sparkplugs gapped at .035" and a new fuel filter. TR6s all 8 should run about 15.00. if its more then that, go somewhere else.

My friends and I bolted it on and went out racing the next night. I was using Prochargers FMU for about a week, then threw on a cartek FMU(Fuel Management Unit...it restricts the return line so the fuel pressure increase = more fuel while under boost). Its the cheap way to go instead of bigger injectors/tuning...but its not as accurate for fuel delivery especially when pushing a lot of boost. You're better off with injectors and tune.

As far as Vortech...dont' know what the install is like. I do know you have to tap into the oil pan and run a return line for the oil. I do know Vortech's kits are more expensive and the superchips/whoever little palm tuner they give isn't worth much because its not detailed to your car so it just dumps as much fuel in as possible to be safe.

That's my $.02

Thx for all this info man. I am a Junior in high school and i just recently received a 99 WS-6 TA for my grades. Doesn't sound very fair does it. Well, hell now my parents are making pay insurance (how do you spell it?) on this car which puts a FAT hole in my wallet. There is a kid at my school, a junior also, and his parents bought him a brand spankin new 2003 Mustang GT. Within 4 months of having this car, in the span of 1 week, he put Flowmaster exhaust, hooker long tube headers, new shift knob, window tint, cobra rims, cobra Z tires, and a supercharger system (not sure which one he's got) which is probably added together about 10k worth of upgrades in the time of 4 months since he received his car. And i know that there is no way in hell he payed for all the crap that he has on his car by himself. B\c he plays baseball and football at our skool and when you play a skool sport at the skool i go to, you don't have a life outside of class. There is no such thing as "practice is rained out", we go to the weight room for 2 hours instead. Unless he was saving up since he was 3 years old, then there is no way he could have payed for the car alone, much less the upgrades. And people like this that get everything they want, when they want it, piss me off sooo much. But there will always be people like that to get in the way and i guess it is something i am going to have to deal with. All i want is to be able to beat this guy in a race b\c all he does is talk smack about his car. He is actually a nice person but when it comes to his car, you can't get much snobbier. I want my car to has something his doesn't, that is why i am trying to find a turbo kit for the LS1. I know my car pretty well inside and out but i might be overlooking something and if you know something that the TA has that is unique that his pimped out mustang has, i would like to know. I just can't wait till i have the money to purchase performance parts so then when i race him, even if i lose, i can say "I payed for the parts to my car and I earned them". Tell me what you think about all this.

I agree, everything I've ever done to my cars I've paid for myself and I did as much of the work as I could myself too. I get more pride out of it if I did it myself than if someone else paid for it or I had a shop do all the work for me.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Do they make turbos for the LS1???

Ok...here is what you do.

I pray as I write this that you have an auto. You're going to love this one.

Link below for the compucar 100 dry shot "Bottle in a bag" kit. (I'm laughing while writing this)

What it is, is a 10# bottle for Nitrous in a gym bag. You put the bag on the floor behind your drivers seat. run the line from the cylinoid on the bottle to your air box. It looks like its part of the cars wiring system...just make sure that you have the end of the line pointed towards the maf about 6-10inches away under the lid.

After that....you plug in the power to your cig lighter area or your auxillery(sp?) port..and you then have a hand held button to hold.(here is where the automatic tranny comes in great......the ol' stab and steer ).

Let him challenge you to a race. Before you race, plug in the power modual. put the tranny in 3. Line up next to him..once you are off and your car hook...hit the little button and bye bye mustang..and he'll never know what hit him. Just hide the hand held button and power supply before you get out of the car and the gym bag zips up so he'll NEVER know.

I know I know I know.......I'm a total bastard.

The kit sells I think for 500? or so.
Linky here http://www.compucarnitrous.com/690310.htm

Have fun and good luck. Tell me how you did. (that stang isn't going to know what hit him.)

EDIT:!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!MUST MUST MUST MUST MUST!!! change your plugs to NGK TR6s and make sure their gapped at .035". I almost forgot about that. If you're near Las Vegas, I'll help you out.
