Re: HOK Spray paints

I sure did.

If you use them, have patience, and use very very very light mist coats.

I had no problem with the primer or the base coat, but when I sprayed the candy color over my basecoat the reaction etched the plastic. I think i sprayed the candy too heavy.

There is good news though. 91% Isopropyl Alcohol disolves HOK paints easily. I had the body soaked and back to bare plastic in under an hour.

Now I will have to sand the entire body lightly and I'm sure a couple coats of sandable primer and wetsanding will be necessary.

Give adequate dry times between coats, and patience is definately the key.

I found that once the body was etched, from there out it was very sensitive to what you could spray on top of it. My Fujimi G35 Nismo had to have Gunze Mr. Topcote for clear as Tamiya clear was causing a reaction on the previously-etched body. Tread lightly! I've heard of a lot of people having trouble w/HOK paint being too hot for plastic, even if it's primed properly. Airbrushing it w/Mr. Color Thinner is a good solution for those w/airbrushes.
