6bolt swap details

hey im thinkin about doin the 6 bolt swap into my 97 gsx. magnus motorsports offers a kit do to it with everything you need for 1500. basically what i need to kno is.... does the swap use the 2g head and just get rid of the block? so id have to get a 1g block and save my 2g head? or is it all 1g. also, if it is all 1g, would components such as intake for a 2g bolt up on a 1g??

Re: 6bolt swap details

You can use the 2g head, but you will have to bore out the stud holes. 7 bolt block uses 11mm studs, and 6 bolt block uses 12mm studs. What do you mean by intake. If you mean the manifold, a 1g head requires a 1g manifold.

basically i have a 2g with 100,000 miles on it and when the engine quits i wanna swap in a souped up 6 bolt engine. until my 7 bolt quits. i wanna throw on an intake for it and was wonderin if it would work on my new 6 bolt. im thinkin about makin my own intake tho and replacin the piece of shit MAS with either a HKS VPC or some translater off of dsmparts i think. the vpc looks badass but you have to have them program this rom shit. im leanin towards this GM MAF with the translater. any suggestions.

MAFt instead of VPC. Put it in the intercooler pipes, too.

Re: 6bolt swap details

Yes. If you put the MAF in the UICP, it's called 'blow-through', and you can vent all day with no harmful affects. If you get a new UICP to do the MAF with, please make sure not to put the 2g back on it If you don't get the HKS, use a 1g used for under 50 bucks.

Re: 6bolt swap details

I don't think it matters, but I'd put it where the stock one is, because that's exactly how long your existing vacuum lines already are.

If you aren't recirculating, you'll put it before the MAF, so between the SMIC and MAF.

If you ARE recirculating, put it where the stock one was, so you don't have to buy a new BOV return hose... unless the recirc port of the BOV is larger than stock.

Re: 6bolt swap details

im kinda confused. so from the turbo.. nothing in the lower ic piping. after the intercooler then the bov? then the MAF. and how far would you put all this from the throttle body.
