99 EBCM repaired (ABS pump running continuously)
My Silverado only has 39,500 miles on it. As I was leaving work a few weeks ago I heard this god-awful sound coming from underneath my truck. I went to a local repair shop and thankfully the fellow pulled the 60 amp ABS fuse which stopped the ABS from running. He then informed me that I was looking at a $600 repair job - including labor.
I thanked him and told him I'd call next day to let him know - in the mean time I called a good friend at Chevy dealership. Wow - the EBCM (Electronic Brake Control Module) part alone was going to set me back $435 bucks! Lucky for me, I found this group. Thanks to others sharing there experience - I was able to get it repaired for $115 (return shipping included) from a fellow who frequents this website regularly. Should you have a GM product with ABS electrical problems checkout his website: www.circuitsolutions.info or www.modulemaster.com or email him. His name is Gavin Curtis ([email protected]). |

Re: 99 EBCM repaired (ABS pump running continuously)
I have a 2000 Suburban that has about 55,000 miles on it. I just sent my EBCM to Gavin on Monday and Got it back on Thursday.
It now works fine and I saved a bundle. I have never worked on a car in my life other than change a battery or there was that one time when I changed the alternator in a 69 convertible. I could not do that today with all the crap that would be in the way. Anyway, I found this forum, found Gavin Curtis at Circuit solutions, followed the instructions on his website and in the returned/repaired module. Now my ABS lights and brake lights are off and I spent the extra money on a new set of golf clubs! |

Can you uninstall the ABS pump by yourself or do you need to take it to a pro. mechanic? Thanks

Re: 99 EBCM repaired (ABS pump running continuously)
I did it myself and I have never worked on a car in my life. The circuitsolutions.info website has detailed instructions.
It requires a torx 20 screwdriver. I bought the bit at a hardware store and used my socket set to get to the 4 screws. It was hard to get to at first but I was able to use both hands by getting myself at an angle and had one hand on one side of the frame and the the other hand on the back side of the pump. Once I did that it worked fine and I did overnight shipping. I sent mine on Monday and got it back on Thursday morning. It really was easy and the reinstallation instructions realy helped. |

Re: 99 EBCM repaired (ABS pump running continuously)
ditto to what hunter says - you'll need a #20 torx bit to remove the 4 screws holding the EBCM that is "pigbacked" onto the brake manifold reservoir. A 1/2" or 3/8" metric socket set to loosen 3 other bolts (I think 13mm), a 1/4" socket set - with a socket that will accept the torx bit above, and maybe an mirror. I used a inspection mirror to verify location of the hard to reach screws. Other than that - email Gavin and ask him any question you have. I emailed him my phone number and he called me back that day to answer a particular question I had.

I also sent my EBCM to Gavin at Circuit Solutions. After installation, everything worked perfectly! I'm very impressed with his service and attention to detail.
