?? V6 question ??

My bro's car had a 3.4L in it originally in 95 but in 97 it died. the engine was replaced but we dont kno if it was a 3.4 or 3.8, i noticed that at about 30-35mph it was at about 2300rpm's so with that info can anyone tell me what engine it is?

If you are talking about the V-6 firebird which i assume you are, he's probably got a 3.8 in their unless when he replaced the engine, he told them he wanted the same one back in there again. I know that in the 95 year model of the base firebird, the 3.4 liter was replaced with the buick 3.8 liter b\c the 3.4 was no longer emissions legal. So from late 95 to 2002, the base firebird was powered by the buick 3.8 3800 seriesII. So i am guessing your bro's car has the 3.8 b\c the 3.4 is no longer emissions legal. Hope this helps.

Hell yea it helps, thanks much...I knew the engine switched over in mid 95 but i thought it was because of a lack of sales not emissions, thats great info, thanks

If your for sure that the car originallly came with a 3.4, odds are that they replaced the engine with a 3.4, because repacing it with a 3.8 would require a different transmission.

you wouldn't have to replace the tranny they didnt change what tranny they used when they switched engines in mid 95

Squirrel Nuts, I didn't realize that they never changed transmissions when they made the switch, thanks for the correction. I assumed that they would have had to because of the switch from a 60 degree to a 90 degree engine configuration. I know that the 3.8's won't bolt up to the transmissions that my 2.8's have, but I know that a 3.4 will. Does anyone happen to know why that is?
