On my 99 model, In the past few days, I've been hearing kind of a whining/chirping sound under acceleration. I suspected the idler pully, but I was wrong. I checked the belt, both idler pullys, and finally just for the hell of it, spun the alternator pully with my hand. Well, I found the noise. Its very faint while idling, but under acceleration, or above 1000 rpm, its very noticeable and annoying. Is there anything I can do to stop this noise, short of reuplacing the alternator? It's charging fine, so I'm not really interested in replacing it.

Re: Squeaking Alternator
sounds like bearings. Is there someone locally who rebuilds them? I had good success in the past (when I lived in Columbia) having several rebuilt for less than the cost of a new one. Given the prices of rebuilts at auto parts stores these days, however, these businesses are probably a dying breed.

Re: Squeaking Alternator
I'll try and see if I can find someone who can rebuild it. I don't know right off of anyone that does that anymore. Thanks for the info though
