Lightbulb What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

First i just wanted to get everybodys opinion on the EVO3 16g, any perks or flaws. What times youve gottn with it, or just things i should know about it.

I just bought and installed the EVO3 16g on my car and i use the greddy profec b2 boost controller to controll boost levels. I think im already getting boost creep, what should i set the controller settings to or what can i do to get rid of boost creep.

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

i have the stock o2 housing into a 3in DP into a 3 in exhaust. Do you want the profec set and set gain settings? low boost is at about 14lbs and hi is a about 18lbs.

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

Boost creep sure isn't rare with the EVO 16g. There are tons of posts about it on dsmtuners, but mainly what they suggest is the 34mm flapper and/or porting. The flapper may solve the problem alone, but together they should definately eliminate boost creep.

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

damnit... so I"m gonna end up gettin boost creep too? I have a full 3" apex n1 from the turbo back (dp and full exhaust) I was going to get the o2 housing ported but didn't think it would really be necessary. how much does it cost and where can I have it done? also with the flapper mod... where can I get that... or have it done? Thanks guys

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

Boost Creep is like having a 38mm (small) external wastegate, then trying to run 12psi on a 20g turbo. If you use all of the boost the 16g can put out, it wouldn't be a problem. Only happens when someone wants to run low psi on a big turbo, and waste (wastegate) the rest. I ask why? Once you get 20+psi tuned, there's no reason not to run it. You don't hit full boost every day anyway, and when you DO floor it, you want the extra power.

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

so you're saying while I wait to get all my other mods on my 16g (which shouldn't take long at all hopefully) I'm gonna have some pretty bad boost creep? cause it's gonna be a day or two maybe even 5 before I get the injectors and afc and pump and all that shit in... is that gonna hurt anything? or just make the car run a little on the shitty side?

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

Taking that into consideration, you'll never see boost creep until you start making some pulls. Boost creep happens AFTER you hit your boost controller's setting, and are still on the gas. It's just building boost and trying to get rid of it... and you can't get rid of it. You won't be building much boost until you get your other stuff going. I doubt you COULD get boost creep considering you would hit fuel cut first if you tried to race.

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

Just keep in mind that larger internal flappers will kill any chance you had of holding higher boost on that turbo (over 20 psi) to redline... Search tuners for a thread title "WG blowing open info" and enter my user name. Plenty of info there on the subject and the details of my findings. Since then several others have done similar tests and come to the same conclusion. Avoid the larger internals like the plague if you plan to run high boost.

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

if you get creep adjust the gain up untill you start to see spikes, then back it down a bit. try it in 3 position increments [like 11 > 14]. this is after you figure out where to set the initial set for the desired boost you want. that is how it is supposed to work anyways.
and it was a good point made about running huge turbo's at low boost pressures. i just saw a civic with an incredible by any means setup with a t3/t04 setup and i asked how much boost the guy was running and he was like [and i'm qouting this] "like 8 pounds, but after i get the GReddy e-Manage in i'll be able to run like almost 9" i was like "gee if i strapped that on my ride [and had everything you got done on mine] i could run it over 20 pounds no problem... <lol>"

stupid civic guy's...

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

he's running 8...and then he's going to 'like almost be running 9'...well what the hell...theres nothing between 8 and 9..so anyway....you guys are saying it's a bad idea to run low boost on a big turbo? or did i totally misunderstand everything?

Re: What are your opinions on the EVO3 16g?

ummm like psi of boost. and yes there is value in boost between 8 & 9. as in 8.75psi. and in the honduh tuning world that makes a difference of like 10% of your boost with numbers that low. and like it was discussed up higher in this thread, you stand the risk of boost creep running a big turbo at too low because the wastegate can only open so far. don't be a pussy and pump up the boost!
