Question Vortech or Jackson...

Please help me. I need to know which supercharger system is better for the SVT Focus. Is it the Vortech supercharger system, or the Jackson Racing Supercharger system?

hey, i seen the power of the Jackson supercharger and it wasn't that good, I read up on the vortech Supercharger and it gives it a big boost. Me personally would go with the Vortech just cuz that it gives you about an extra 100Hp, and the jackson provide you with only around 6-Hp increase....

any particular reason why not a turbo kit? Gives better hp gains and boat loads more torque.

Re: Vortech or Jackson...

I've checked out the hp gain with the vortech and the jackson supercharges, and the vortech adds around 80 hp while jackson adds around 50 hp. So yes the jackson supercharger is weaker, but also cheaper by around $1000. I don't want a turbo for multiple reasons. 1) The turbo systems out now for the focus still have bugs to get out. 2) They cost more $. 3) They guzzle oil.

You are correct that turbo kits do cost more. Have you checked out Turbo Tom's focus kit that he sells over on focal jet? His kit is putting out 378fwhp and 322fwtq. Thats about 450 crank hp. Those dyno numbers were from 11/02 so im sure things have changed by now. I havent stayed up to date with his car. As for guzzling oil, not really sure how you figure that??? Superchargers have oil feed lines just like turbochargers do.

You can check out his website at www.focus-power.com

Re: Vortech or Jackson...

Turbos also have lag, while superchargers don't. It's really about cost for me, I don't need a turbo because they're more costly and require more maintenance. I would love to have a turbo, if it was cheaper.

A properly sized turbo should have no lag, especially with a small diplacement engine like the 2.0L zetec. Go with a T-28 and youll be making full boost around 3,000 rpms where as youll have to rev the supercharger to 7,000 rpms just to see peak boost. My car has absolutely no lag. Put the pedal to the floor and you have boost. Full boost is made around 3500 rpms on my car since I opted for the T3/T4. Toms kit is only $100 more than the Jackson supercharger kit and your looking at 50 more hp and 70 more foot lbs of torque. I guess I'm overlooking something. To me the turbo seems to be the best bang for the buck. And even if both kits produced the same amount of hp, the turbo is going to win because of the huge gobs of torque. Its not about peak hp, its about hp under the curve.

Re: Vortech or Jackson...

I checked out the site. I remember seeing his car in the Focus Fanatic magazine. But still, the turbo system for the SVT (which is what I have) is $5800. Compare that to the Vortech's price of $3699 for polished or $3449 for satin and you see what I mean by expense. If I was to buy a turbo, it would probably be from the place you mentioned though.
