Aftermarket age?

I was thinking the other night Honda makes there cars to last uses good parts and gets assloads of miles for there cars motors. Well heres what i was wondering.
Say im going to take 2 motors a stock b16a *lets pretend they last 300k on average* and i take a b16 fully reinforced sleved coated pistons rods etc. but with the build motor its never raced or powered up just a built motor running stock.
Now I know the built motor would take more a whooping but could it run 300k miles?
I guess what i'm asking can you build a motor well treat it well and get better or same life span outta them? Cause I mean I know OEM parts are to last and the aftermarket is to hold up to a beating.
whats everyones on this matter?

that seems logical to me, cuz your replacing the stock stuff with hardcore eqiupment thats meant to beat on, so if its built stronger than stock then in theory it should last very long, as long as regualr maintence etc was perofrmed.

Yes of course it should last longer.

Assumeing you not increasing the stress's on any of the parts, but you are making them stronger and maching them to finer tolerances then there should be an increase in engine life.
However the things that wear out first, are generaly the bearings and pistons rings/cylinder walls. The only way to make them last longer is to use finer tolerances when machining the parts, and differnt bearing materials.
However the stock parts used by Honda are generaly the best you can get anyway, any aftermarket bearings that will suport more pressure my infact wear faster. Its also been well shown that Honda has some of the finest enginering tolerances of any manufactor, and there is little that can be done to improve on them.

ah OK thanks a ton this was just one of those things that popped in my head and was driving me nuts!!!

the key to any motor lasting longer is routine maintance and using high quality oils. Using an aftermarket oil cooler will make it even last longer, but takes a little longer for the car to warm up.

if it is built with better parts and driven normally and not raced, it should last a lot longer.

I hope my stock engine lasts that long.

i definatly think that reinforcing the engine, taking care of the car, and low driving stress should really make a honda last longer but one thing comes to mind...most people change their cars within say 5 years of purchase and there are very few cars on the road that have 300k+ miles. Unless driven for about a hundred miles a day,its very hard to rack up such a high milage and another thing is that no matter how reliable these engines are at 150+ the car will break down around the engine if daily driven.

my car is at 160k daily driven since 95 and it never broke down at 150k? what are you talking about? only thing to ever go was the water pump at 145k but that is to be expected, and i would hardly consider that breaking down. other than that only thing replaced was timing belt at 70k.



P.S. and i'm pretty sure these cars were never intended to be modded when honda produced them in like early 90's.
