Hyundai Accent Heater Odor

Hello. I Own A 2001 Hyundai Accent With 55,000, (no A/c). When I Turn On The Heat I Get A Strong Chemical Smell. The Car Is Still Under Warranty So I Brought It To Hyundai. They Told Me The Rear Wheel Cylinders Are Leaking And Dripping Onto The Exhaust Componets Creating The Odor. This Doesn't Sound Logical To Me. Is This Possible? I Was Expecting A Leaking Heater Core, Though I Haven't Noticed A Loss Of Fluid. If The Antifreeze Is Old Will I Get An Odor If The System Isn't Leaking? Any Thoughts? Thanks For Your Help.

Re: Hyundai Accent Heater Odor

The statement that they made to you about the rear wheel cylinders leaking onto the exhaust creating the smell is impossible. Return again and complain. If a consumer makes a complaint before they are out of warrenty and it is not repaired, and you return and make the same complaint(but are out of warrnety ie.. over 60k they still must repair your original complaint at no charge!) but you are better off getting it taken care of before going out of warrenty and it sounds like you are getting down to the wire. Good luck and make sure to repost.

Re: Hyundai Accent Heater Odor

Did you recently change the oil? I ask because if they drip it on the manifold or if there is a leak somewhere when you put on the heater it is going to smell like Elizabeth, NJ. Been there. Hope that is all that's wrong but take it back to the Stealer for me and tell him to take his analysis "Told Me The Rear Wheel Cylinders Are Leaking And Dripping Onto The Exhaust Componets Creating The Odor" and stick it up his tailpipe and take the car to another dealer but see if it ain't something simple like a doofus changed your oil and gave your engine a free wash in it to boot. All the best.
