2500 silverado 6.0 mileage

I have just bought a 2500 silverado extended cab with an 8'ft bed. I am realizing that the gas mileage of an ( ) exploder sport with a 4.0 wasn't that bad in comparison. Does anyone know what can be done to improve the gas mileage. I have heard of chip upgrades for the '04 Duramax, but nothing except the K&N air filter. Will removing the screen work on my 6.0 2500 as well? Most responses have been for 1500 5.3 and 5.7 engines.

Well, there is only so much gas mileage one of those heavy trucks will get! They got 300 horespower and .410 gears, locking diffs, and again, lots of weight.

I suggest flowmasters. Not only will you love the sound, but you will see a slight increase (maybe 1mpg) in fuel economy (of course assuming that you can keep yoru foot out of the throttle body, beucase that exhaust note will be addictive). I think maybe the HyperTech Power programmers are supposed to increase gas mileage as well, and they also are supposed to add about 20 horses. Hope that helps.

I've had my Hypertech for 2 years and I haven't seen any increase, but I also put it in the day after I bought my truck. I think my heavy foot doesn't help either because it does add power.

what will the hypertech set me back? I have removed the screen at the air filter and I am looking into the K&N airflow system for my truck. I have looked up the Flowmaster system for this truck as well. It will have to go on the wish list for now. I'll send it with my wish list for Christmas to my rich Uncle. haha

The hypertech systems also looks like the answer to my tire question too. The tires on this truck look like they were taken from a station wagon.

Usually, brand new, a Hypertech sells for somewhere around $350, depends on where you get it. You can look on e-bay for them, they usually knock about $100-150 off. I'm interested in selling mine as soon as I get my custom tune, bad thing is, mine will only work on a 99.

Jayson, I have a 99, however I think we may have different engines. I am in the 2500 with a 6.0 extended cab and 8'ft bed. this damn thing is like a limo compared to that explorer sport. But I am lovin it. My buddies want to do the Stereo, but none want to pay for it so I am more concerned with hacking away at the mileage if possible. And as for staying off the gas.....I've never had a speeding ticket, the best I get is downgraded to Reckless.hahaha I'm not bragging, I hzave toned it down, or else I am just not getting caught. which ever, I can get into the gas a little too. I haven't noticed too much of a difference by removing the Screen yet, I will see at the pump. Most of my driving is city though, I live just outside of DC. Oh how Tenn and Texas, and AZ. I have no pic of this truck yet, but it isn't to different from what you have pictured. Black and the ext cab, looks like you have the 8'ft bed as well. Of course it is 4X4. I am currently stuck in 245-75-16 for now. Can't get over waisting the tires on it since they have more than half tread life.

i got a 2004 Silverado 2500 Crew cab 4x4 .. i get about 15mpg on the freeway if i cruise at 70mph. I put Shell gas the other day, and i got much better mileage... weird.. but Imma do more research.

I just made a road trip to Ohio form DC, I also made about 15MPG, however in town I am getting 10.79 very consistently. As far as Shell goes, the place in Africa that they extract thier creud is so pure it hardly needs to be refined. Yes it is some of the best feul on the Market. I believe they retrieve it from northern Africa.
WHy do I know this, did a study for a college class regarding treatment of environment and people. Feel bad for the workedrs, but the Gas is the best you can get. Very pure.

I stand corrected, Shell oil, and BP share a refinery in South Africa, I believe it is in Durban. SO an alternative to Shell is BP, it is coming from the same place.

My hypertech will also work on any engine (4.8, 5.3, and 6.0) in a 99 model, beisdes the 4.3 6 cyl. I just checked my mileage and it stays around 17 or so. I have only used Amoco and Chevron gas..as they are the only 2 stations within like 15 miles.

If you are looking at getting rid of it sometime soon let me know. I am pretty sure I won't be up at 17MPG, but it would be nice to see 13 or 14 off the highway.
