Taking off dash to get to the radio?

Hello all,

I was wondering if anyone out there knows how to take apart the dash to get to the radio, so I can take it out. Any help is greatly appreciated.

By the way its a 1996 SSE
Thanks,
-Rich

I know on my 95 you have to pull off the trim plate that surrounds the radio and part of the lower right instrument panel. It is held by clips and it makes you cringe when you pull on it to release, but it will come. Again, that is my 95, I cant say for sure if yours is like mine. Maybe someone else that knows will chime in.

Re: Taking off dash to get to the radio?

ya just get under it w/ a screw driver somewhere that u will not hurt the dash it self and get 1 clip loose and work your way around, it will go over the steering colum and to the other side , it comes off in one piece, there is a clip at 3:00 from radio and at 7:00, then just work your way around, there are some across the speedo also if you can get the clip partaly loose run a screw driver in above it and sometimes u ca push in on the part that does the clipping and will release easier.,take a screw driver that dont mean much to you and bend it so, it is a 90 degree bend it does give you an uneasy feeling when u pull on the trim.

Hey, thanks for all the help. I've been having alot of trouble with my radio lately. I have controls for the radio which are on the steering wheel, as well as on the main radio itself. When you try and use the controls on the main radio, it well shut off. So basically you cant conrtrol it using those buttons. You can only use the steering wheel controls. Also the display wouldnt work either.
I fixed the display light when I took apart the dash and got to the radio. I guess it had come loose some how, so I tightened it and that seemed to do the job. I still couldnt figure out what the other problem is or how to fix it. If anyone knows, please let me know. Thanks for all the help.

You have to save link to www.carstereohelp.com/stereoremoval.htm - The have fairly good install & removal details for many makes of cars, including pictures as to where these clips are loacted. (Also, beware of using screwdriver: your hands should do it with some effort.)
