85 Civic Cooling Fan

[Continually Broken]

Hello. I have a problem with air hoses coming loose and blocking my cooling fan. When this happens, the engine tends to overheat. Following this I replace all lost water/coolant, and boy, when the fan still doesn't come on...that's frustrating. Do you think I should get a new switch, or that the fan motor is burned up? Thanks in advance for any help w/ this.

i'm not really sure what you are saying, first, you are talking about air hoses, what air hoses? when and how are you losing coolant? your fan motor probally isn't burnt up, there is a heat sensor in the rad that turns it on at a certain temp, that may have to be replaced. for now be more specific in what you are describing because seem to be describing two seperate peoblems at once but i dont know...

The air hose that goes from the intake to the exhaust manifold came loose and got stuck in the fan. The engine overheated, I put the hose where it should be, refilled the radiator and now the fan won't turn on at all. I guess I thought the motor was burned out because there had been a hose stuck in the fan. I'm not sure why this would cause the switch to be bad. Dunno. Thanks for the reply .

well first off your engine should not have over heated simply because the fan quit, my fan didn't work for over a year and it ony got warm a couple times. if it was idleing for a long time it could overheat tho. well the way to test the fan is to follow the wire that goes to the sensor in the rad, when you find the sensor unplug both wires that go into it and conect them together with another wire (just temporary, and with the key in the on pisition), the fan should turn on, if it doesn't then it's screwed.

has your engine ovreehated since or does it run normal now?
