Just wanna ask you guys if (not really in the FAQ this) you actually do a "wet coat" with clear. I clear coated a project today about 3-4 times with mist coats, waited about 5 hours then gave it a wetcoat. Hmmmmm !!! Now it looks like FUCK, the paint ran down the sides in areas.
Not really used clear that much before and when i have i ´have only done mist coats then sanded but thought id go for the shine directly this time without the orange peel. appreciate any answers with this beacause its really bugging me. Thanks. Later, Mike.

Re: "Wet coating" clear........
well when i clear i give it 1 nice light coat. well as far as runny ness, i would just sand down the car and repaint. body work should eb fine, just repaint.
i dont think many people do a WET COAT of clear, most just a mist or 2 |

Re: "Wet coating" clear........
If we're talking about Tamiya TS clear or Gunze Mr. Top Coat clear from spray cans, I do three wet coats in a row with 15 minutes in between.
No runs, just on the edge of being too wet so it will flow nice. I hate mist coating.

But still this will leave orange peel like with paint. My Skyline R34 as you can see in my signature received about 10 coats of clear. I got away with the wet coat not running there. What, do you sand after cleacoating or does rubbing compound smooth it out again. Sorry for coming over as "thick" but this is something i still havent mastered and never will if i dont ask. Thanks again. later, Mike.

Re: "Wet coating" clear........
i do primer, about 20 mins to dry wet sand it for a bit, then add a light coat, dry time a day, wet sand, light coat, wet sand, final coat, i let the final coat dry for a day then add details and clear. i can spend about 3-4 days on paint. my latest elcamino was 5 coats of paint. first i did silver over grey that make chrome DUh but it wasnt what i wanted, so wet sanded, and added black to the silver, shot it, well still to chrome, wet sanded added more black. finally got the right look and added 2 coats. took me 4 days to get the right paint.

Re: "Wet coating" clear........
The running of the clear most likely is an application error. I do 2-3 mist coats and then 2 wet coats, all approx. 10 minutes of each other.
