Tire Pressure

I'm going to the strip tomorrow for the first time this season, on my stock steelies. Both fronts are at the stock-rated 30psi, but what will give me less wheel hop and spin? I can't really guesstimate the pressure over and over and go launching around the roads I live near but if somebody can give me a ballpark figure I can do the rest.. thanks.

Re: Tire Pressure

i think around 24-26psi but don't hold me to it. Check around www.clubsi.com under the drag section i believe.

Re: Tire Pressure

cool thanks, I'll try those out. A mod on clubsi said to drop the tire pressure to 30psi, so maybe he typoed and meant 20..?

20, 22 is good. I don't excatly know whats at work within a V6 or I4 or H4 (especially the motors that are mounted sideways under the hood), but for rear wheels drive V8 & V6's I've heard that it helps to lower the tire pressure of the rear drivers side tire about 2-3 psi compared to the rear passengers side tire. I usually race both rear tires at 20-22, but this spring I'm going to try 18-21 in the rear left and 20-22 in the rear right. Try looking to see if some guys use different tire pressures for the front L&R.

Re: Tire Pressure

Nobody around had an air compressor so I just ran at ~29. My best time was a 14.9@92mph, not too shabby with little track experience with this engine. I'll be hitting mid/low 14's by season's end.

Re: Tire Pressure

Only ran 3 times, got a little crowded. 15.0 twice, then 14.9
I really need to work on my launch.

Re: Tire Pressure

yea thats deff horrible, try running on your 17's next time even tho they are bigger you'll get more grip

or drop the psi, you would have been fine driving home or to a gas station to refill them back up on lower psi

I'm going for brackets next wednesday. I'll mess around with the pressure then and see what's best.

Hey Ricochet, this is off topic, just checked your profile, are you a 92 Alpha or Yankee?
