Angry 1979 Cobra 2.3 Turbo Vaccum problem

I purchased a 1979 Cobra 2.3 Turbo with the vaccum system screwed up............ What I did not know is there was no calibration sticker on the head or engine any where.........I purchased the Ford factory manuals (no help) been to the libary many many differnt vaccum diagrams for this model.

I just can tot seem to get this engine to run correct.......... I'm looking for any help can find at this time such as photos of the vaccum system of a working engine of this type...........

hmm, i couldn't get my 2.3 to run right either, in fact now it doesn't even crank.

here's my solution: drain all the oil out, start the engine, floor it, and run. then you have a perfect excuse to build a better motor =P

i have all sorts of plans to rebuild a little 2.3 block into a turbo and use it in another stang as a daily driver =). dunno if it will ever happen tho.

anyway, in all seriousness, a car that old is bound to have all sorts of problems. your best bet is to go to the ford dealer and talk to the parts guys. or maybe somebody on another forum will have a diagram for you. then you completely redo the vacuum hoses, replace every single one. block off any accessories you won't use, like EGR and that sort of crap. make sure there are no leaks in your intake manifold.

do a cranking compression check and a leakdown test, make sure you're getting good compression and that your rings are good. if those tests fail, then you have a mechanical problem involving partial or complete teardown of this motor of yours.

if the latter happens, have the block bored out a little, stroke it, and throw a bigger turbo at it. put a lumpy cam in it. then you'll have some real fun!

but your main problems are A) it's a 2.3, and B) it's older than you probably are.
