1987 Turbo 300Zx
Hey guys, its me again. Im just posting this because I would like some info on the 87' turbo model of 300Zx. and I cant find a lot on it on the web.
Can anybody tell me a little bout it? How much horsepower does it have? torque?? How much horsepower can it handle on the stock manifold? IS there anything I would have to look out for in these models?? Anything wrong with them? is 120,000 miles ok for a trubo 87' ??? How is that car on snow conditions ?? If I would get snow tires, would that take care of it, or is it still going to be dangerous driving it in winter??? How much would a 87' turbo with 125,000 with intake, exhaust, short shifter, custom front suspention bar, custom shocks, custom springs, nice new paint, new brakes, tires, calipers, with 18 inch racing wheels cost?? would $5000 be a good price for that?? How much horsepower would that kind of a car have with all those things?? Thanks dudes.... |

Re: 1987 Turbo 300Zx
The 5 G's thats alot for that car, it can support 450HP+ Jim Wolf makes sport 450 package it includes 450cc injector, 1993 mustang mass airflow meter, and an ecu upgrade, 3"ss turbo back exhaust, intercooler(u supply that one) and a boost controller and their you have it u got 450HP, plus it wouldn't hurt getting a TT fuel pump and some denso irdium spark plugs and the 240SX throttle body and guess what it all cost me 2 G's, for 450HP 2 G's is worth it and still quick turbo spool up.

Re: 1987 Turbo 300Zx
He's trying to make a profit! No one ever gets the money they put into a car... I wouldn't buy it over $3,500....

87 Turbos are rated 200bhp and 195lbs of TQ So far..thats what they produced when they first were built, due to wear and tear of a 15+ year old car. I serioulsy doubt it makes that much HP at the crank..even when it was first built. You have lots of drivetrain power loss so you probably would be losing 15% or more of that power to the wheels.
The stock VG30ET engine seen on the Z31 can handle 400hp safe. Anything beyond that on stock internals will deffinatly damage your engine. When buying Z31s inspect the Turbos, gauges to see if they still work (some go out including dash), make sure the injector recall was completed. Check the oil, and sometimes the R200 diff found on the turbo models are badly worn and may not work properly. 120k miles is normal as long as the previous owners took care of it by regular matinence. I would have to agree 1viadrft i wouldnt buy a z31 over 3500, but thats up to you..with all those mods put into that 87turbo i guess 5000 is ok...alittle overkill..but hey.its your decision. if your looking into Z32s i suggest 91-93 models. 90s had a few known bugs and 94-96 had OBD2 which lost 10+ odd some HP at the crank. |

Re: 1987 Turbo 300Zx
okay, thanks dudes. Well, now i'll look for 92-93' 2+2. If I wanted to put in a nitrous sytem in that car, would it be good?? and would I have to modify it and do anything with the car, or would I just be able to install the nitrous kit and blow some honda's away??? (I would get the nitrous after I get exhaust, headers, and intake of course). Thanks again

Re: 1987 Turbo 300Zx
I thought I alraedy talked to you about nitrous, kiddo? I have heard its possible to run a 70 shot of Nitrous with stock componets... but I have also heard that it's wise to upgrade bigger-injectors and upgraded ECU if you plan to make HP.

Re: 1987 Turbo 300Zx
I know it would be good to upgrade the ECU and biger injectors, fro any horse adding jopb, but that costs money, so WOuld it hurt the car much if I dont do anything to it, and just install the nitrous???

Re: 1987 Turbo 300Zx
Yeah, go ahead! But you can only handle about 70HP... in the log run you should install ECU and bigger injectors!

Re: 1987 Turbo 300Zx
ok, good, and I'll try to go with even lower than 70 Hp if there is something like that. But if 70 is the lowest they have for nitrous than I'll wait and save somemoney, upgrade the ECU and injectors, and then get some nitrous, because I dont want to penalize my car for my mistake. Thanks 1via

When it comes to N20 depending on the type of injection you get. There are some factors you have to consider when craming compressed laughing gas into your cylinders. But ill get into that some other time. the Z32 VG30DE can handle 20-100 hp shot of N20. I do strongly suggest a few mods to free up some air before you start with the "go fast button" Start with intake, and exhaust, larger injectors do help with a larger fuelpump. Walbro 255lbph Pump works best. ECU to remap your air/fuel ratios so you dont blow yourself up when you press the funny button.
