Chips
Sorry about not combining my previous posts into one. What is the maximum amount of hp and torque a stock 97 jetta GLS 2.0L 4-cyl can handle? And what is a good chip that can achive close to those maximums? I just bought this Jetta and I don't want to blow the engine with a chip it cannot handle. Any advice would be appriciated.

dear ed,
my advice would be to leave it alone... IT'S a 2.0! it's not going to be fast anyway? the slight improvement you get from a chip will be such a small improvement you will hardly notice it. it would be more mental then anything. chips are way over rated in these small cars. Think about it...if a chip in a big 5.7 liter v8 can only get 5-10 hp max, what do you possibly think it's going to get out of your 2.0 liter? and if it were such a true viable source of un-tapped power the smart germans would have been doing it all along. I reccomend to learn how to shift better, as opposed to risking detonation or leaning out mixtures...this will by far speed things up better then a costly chip. |

Re: Chips
This time I don't agree Smokn, I installed a GIAC chip in my 2.slo and did gain noticable HP's, really noticable. Maybe 10 to 12, which in a small car is alot, and for hundred bucks it was worth it for me. Addind exhaust and a cold intake kit will help aswell, but as Smokn would say, go V8 if you want real HP's.
