Ahh...no reverse please help
Here's the deal, and this is totally unheard of at least to me.
I got a 96 Accord EX 2.2 VTEC with a 5 spd (only freakin way). I go to back out from my parking spot at work the other day and no reverse. I can feel where the gear is supposed to be but the shifter gets stuck and I have to force it out (with both hands). Still drives forward in all five gears just fine. I got it home (after pushing the stupid thing backwards out of the stall) and played with it some more. Now it finally goes in and out of reverse fairly easily but is apparent from the pull that the gear is not meshed or synchronized. I should also note that I cannot scratch reverse with the clutch out, and if I drop the clutch I hear a quiet like loose bearing clanking sound. Called the dealorship and the mechanic was just like "uh...that can't be good." Please tell me otherwise. P.S. I checked my reservoir and under the pedal no leaks or nothing like that and the fluid level is fine. HEEEEEEEEEEEEEELP!!!!! |

WTF?!? Today suddenly I can scratch reverse! I continue to play with it and the car eventually starts to back up. Its still not all the way in gear but at least it'll move. I'm thinking its gotta be a shifter problem.
If anyone knows anything about manual transmission please help me out. |

Re: Ahh...no reverse please help
hey man hows it goin....
I have a 95 5-speed and i had the same problem as you....and you know what i did? I waited it out and it is great now......but your best bet is to just take a seat in your car and go from first strait in to reverse a whole bunch of times so that it can be worked in.....it is not a big problem...trust me i was sweatin it too......got my bro to take a look at it and he said that the synchros were fine and the linkage was good so he told me to play around with it and voila its all good now... hope this was of help... cheers

Re: Ahh...no reverse please help
Yeah, hondas are bad with trying to shift in reverse, Ive noticed. Just do what he said, shift into first, then try reverse, its what I do. Also could try letting the shifter in neutral, and pumping the clutch a few times before shifting into reverse.

Re: Ahh...no reverse please help
Also might not hurt to change your gear oil, my Mitsu is a pain to shift sometimes. I changed the oil in my transfer case, transaxle, and rear diff yesterday and put in some higher quality synthetic oils and the difference is really noticeable.
